How cheaper can they get? It is not going to beat $10-12 for 60-70 gallons which is what a rubbermaid tub costs. The tanks are expensive especially when you are looking for one. I thought I'll go with rubbermaids for now, and in future when I find the right size tank, I can always switch it...
I found a rubbermaid that is 37 gallons. I agree, that being in the basement, the space is not the issue. With rubbermaids, the bigger ones share pretty much the same foot prints, so that is not a problem at all. But my concern is how big is big enough? Especially since the rubbermaids are not...
Hi all,
I need your learned opinion on building a diy refugium. I am thinking of using a Rubbermaid 20-25 gallon tub for this purpose. The refugium is going to be hooked into my basement sump, by drawing water from the overflow and throw water into the Sump return area. My display tank is a 72...
My wife said, if I make one more hole in the floor she is going put one in my head. :o
That said, what is the closed loop you are talking about? I have seen one in Melev's reef and that is going to be one of my future projects. But that one as I understand, runs on a separate pump and...
Thanks to the long weekend, my project comes to a close (again). I changed the line return line to 1.5" as suggested. Behind the display tank, I temporarily glued the overflow line and the return line and did a water test. It is leaking in only two places, in the inlet and outlet of the pump. I...
The gap between the door jamb and the ceiling does not fit a 1.5. I guess I'll try 1.25. And I will do what you suggested. Increase right after the pump and reduce it near the bulkhead.
Thanks for being honest.!
I see that the thread is revived just in time.
What else do I need to connect AC Jr to a PC besides Ground Isolated Serial Connector? Can i get a serial cable from compusa or something?
Bill - you mentioned couple of posts ago, it comes with ethernet & webserver. I thought only the higher...
Thanks to you all, my project is nearing completion. I have to glue some last pieces and start testing.
I saw the other basement sump thread and have these two questions:
1) I am planning to use Gen X Mak4 rated at 1800 gph (high pressure) for my setup. This is how I calculated the pump...
Mike,
Here is a rough sketch that how my automation would work, if it is qualified as an 'automation'.
Both the reservoirs will always be filled with fresh/salt water all the time.
Assuming I change 10% every other week which is about 15 gallons for me, using this setup, this is what my...
The two drains in the sump are only eight inches apart. I am unable to fit a 1.5" inch tee in this short gap. The distance looks perfect for 1" tee. Is it alright to skip the 1.5" vestibule between the sump and the pump? Two .75 outlets will combine to 1" which will feed the pump.
The other...
Changing 20% of water twice a month is usually recommended, but how often do you really do it?
I am planning to automate the process, so pl. help me decide.
John,
Looking at your pictures I was wondering how you managed to fit them without the purple showing up anywhere. Now I understand it is the goopy glue!
Rich,
Yes, I will switch to a 1.5X1.5X1.5 and cut it down to 1" at the pump. I am thinking of leaving about three to four inches of the...
John & Rich,
Thanks for the patient walk through. This is what I've come up with so far:
As advised, the sump outlet is connected to a union followed by a step up adapter and then an elbow which connects a step down adapter and then a 1.5" X 1" Tee. Now my question is can I keep the fittings...
