Re: Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank Even More Pix
Pink and Purple millie, finally living up to its name. I had to break off this colony which was attacking successfully my purple nana colony. It turned all brown and is now recovering its purple.
I broke off a little frag of upscales microclados so I...
Re: Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank More Pix
Pearlberry looking more blue and less brown. Pic doesn't do it justice. I am having to restrain the pokerstar monti underneath, which will kill the acro if it can. To the left you can see the weird sunburn effects on my montipora spongodes.
Blue polyp...
Re: Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank Pix
Yeah, I said I wouldn't post anymore pix, but life is what happens when you're making other plans...
I have finally had some recovery and further improvement in coral color. I attribute this 2 either (1) 400W light upgrade (2) 12K Reeflux Bulbs or (3) Feeding my...
Yeah, I'm reluctnnt cause I'm still stalling on my personal website...
The colors are looking better every day, so I suppose when I get back from this trip I will take some pix. Mine only look good from the top down, my front of the tank pix look awful.
Just take one more look at the post, it's titled cyphastrea, I said I bought some undata at the same time.
I am hot on the Cyphastrea thing. If they weren't $99 on DD I would become the NJ Cyphastrea PIMP. Ackshully, they have Emerald City (green/blue) for $49, that might be my next purchase.
I have had good growth in the middle level of the tank (more than a year). It doesn't get the green coloration, only the blue and white. I moved a branch way up high in the tank and that has developed the green with blue tips coloration. I think it's a pretty hardy coral.
They are bright, all the way to the bottom of the tank. I had tried a bluer (15K XM) 250W bulb and my livestock had a very negative reaction, although initially colors looked good.
Corals are starting to adapt to the new lighting, getting return of colors. I switched to the Reeflux 12K's recommended by several club members and they are great. Lots of blue, lots of PAR. One thing I have realized is that in my low nutrient tank my corals may be starving. I started to get...
I had one back when it was a real mystery. You can search out my name photos and posts on seaslug forum (seaslugforum.net) . Mine came in on cladiella, a softy of course, and ate half of it. I tried to swicth it to a big cheap colt coral but no joy. I'm with you, they are cool, but the will eat...
Jimroth's Cyphastrea
This is such cool stuff. I bought it from Unique Corals at MACNA along with a piece of M. undata.
I'm not sure if this is "Meteor Shower" or "Superman" but at least it's colorful:
You can kind of make out the original rectangular frag in the middle. The stuff just...
Like ReefsNRotts said, I like my tank just fine. It's a big custom tank, and prices at the fancier places like Miracles were 3X Glasscages price. I couldnt have swung it. The Glasscages guy is kind of a crank though. He's like the Soup Nutsy on Seinfeld, doesn't put up with much waffling. You...
(1) Don't usually quarantine. I am Setting up Q-tank for an expensive fish I have incoming though.
(2) Bad housekeeping, don't keep after detritus in display or sump
(3) Clean skimmer body every couple weeks at best.
(4) Test every couple of months, except salinity and pH
(5) Don't look at tank...
No going back now, I think the damage that's done is done at this point. I'm just waiting for stuff to adapt and also looking for some time to head to Avenel to pick up my new bulbs. I have moved a couple of the victims (tricolors) lower in the tank to recover.
Mixed results so far from the new 400W lights. It's true I have not picked up my new 12K Reeflux bulbs yet, so the bulbs in there are both used and an unknown quantity.
Losers:
Even with the use of eggcrate, a lot of corals got light shocked and turned brown. Both my tricolors went from pretty...
My tang picks algae off my vortechs when they are running slow for the feeding cycle. Only a matter of time....
The butterflies are either too smart or already got their noses smacked!
I have a green open brain that used to be in JCurry's tank long ago. It's around 5". Anyone want to buy it or swap for it? I'm getting an angel and suspect it will be the first thing on the menu.
