Wow, big difference!
That's all the stuff that gets through the mesh of the socks. I noticed I started getting this when I switched to the mesh socks, and once a month I go in and vac out the bottom of the sump.
As you can see in the last pic, I had some SPS frags in the upper half of the tank. I had a rainbow monti that browned out but it was at the bottom of the tank and the caps were blocking out most of the tank they were getting so big. :D
Monti Caps, Birdsnest and Chalice corals all did really well in my Biocube 8 with (2x18W) PCs.

I moved the caps to my frag tank cuz they got so big and re-did the aquascape.
(Notice the chalice growing off the frag plug in the lower right.)
The mesh I have is clear 1/4" (fire fish here too, that's why I got the screens). If it doesn't work out with Ray, I can stuff it in a flat rate box and ship it.
I was stuck in traffic getting there and I missed moving the tank, I did however have all the pizza to myself! Sorry Paul, I took most of the pizza home with me. :p

The sump dimensions sound about right. The baffles do not and should not be 12" high. Your baffle between the fuge and return section should be what you want the depth of the water in the sump to be. Or you can do different depths in the...
I'll be breaking down my one year old AGA 65 (36"x18"x24"H) drilled with a Glass-Holes 700 overflow and (2) 3/4" returns in a few weeks after I setup my new 120.
Power came back on this morning. I was out changing the oil and filling up the generator when two JCP&L trucks drove down the street. Two hours later we had power. ::Happy Dance::
