Bob (magic) was kind enough to loan me a TDS meter. Thanks Bob!
So now for the results.
My tap water is 347. I tested the rodi I got at my lfs which is right down the street... and I had to retest a few times to make sure I was reading it right.....2250 out of the jug.
Agreed. I am leaning towards the conclusion I've been paying good $ for bad water and my rocks are releasing the p04 back into the water. I'll take your advice and swap my gfo weekly and others advice to test the water I'm currently buying.
If my new lfs isn't dead on with parameters I'll tie...
i disturbed the sand bed ~3 weeks ago. Kept the sand wet when I moved the tank. I will buy a TDS meter and take some of the guess work out. I too don't trust any LFS and that's nothing personal.
I did clean the power head last night. I can't tell if it's working any better but I have a sense it may be underpowered based on looking at RWC's tank.
- I do have some SPS
- I buy my RODI from my LFS, which used to be Ocean Galleries and now is Pets Plus in Flemington.
- The rock was given to me last year from a long established tank, I went through a cycle (hair, cyano) and it has been stable for a while but the hair algae just never seems...
This photo shows the hair algae on my pwr head before I cleaned it.

Trying to find the source of my p04. Last week it was 0 on the Hannah, today after a 10g WC my Hannah is reading .12
I feed a small amount of formula pellets to my 4 small fish every 3-4 days.
I use ro/di
I run a skimmer, tweaking it often to get...
This is a question that's been bugging me for a while.
When the power to the return pump is turned off I have to suck the air out of that U bend to get the flow going again. I'm concerned that if I have a brief power loss when I'm not home that I'll end up over flowing the DT, and...
So I met up with Ron (RWC) last night, he hooked me up with some amazing free frags!!! While I was there I saw how a tank is done right, and he imparted some of his reef wisdom that I'm looking to put into practice. I don't have nearly enough flow in my tank. I have a $40 pwr head, no idea the...
Clearly I don't know the answer, since I posed the question, and am a realities newbie, but I had a thought....
Blue is a higher energy wavelength (more intense) than the red end of the spectrum, so does spectrum matter as much as intensity? A logical extension of that logic would be to try...
During a trip to Fengs shop he told me that algae prefers the red end of the spectrum so as much as possible he only runs the blue lights. This appeals to me for two reasons, I've been battling algae, and I like that some of my corals fluoresce. But am I making a mistake running all blues? I've...
