Without photos, Id guess probably film algae - dark, easy to remove, covers everything. Could also be red algae, which looks dark, covers rocks, blows away easy. and can look like stringy strands. Same as above for me. For short trips an Eheim dumping flake into a feeding ring (or my surface skimmer eats it all). Never a concern.
