QT Tank - Would this work?

The Litermeter is just adosing pump :) a expensive one at that, but thanks to the group buy it wasn't so bad. There are others which are less, mnat has posted about the ones he uses with great success.

QT Tank - Would this work?

I will have 3 pumps on the Litermeter 1. DT-> QT 2. "New water" -> DT 3. QT -> Sink The Litermeter rotates pumps and splits the 1 gallon (3.78 liters) across 150 cycles a day, so there shouldn't be too much change in the water levels. As a back up, I have a float sensor in the sump, that if...

QT Tank - Would this work?

Thanks for the feedback, your words of wisdom always welcome (I remember you introduced me to the 45 gal cube :)) I would highly doubt that anything can "swim" up the water, as the rollers are pretty tight. But as a precaution I can just keep the "waste" water tube from the DT above the water...

QT Tank - Would this work?

Now that my tank has seemed to settle in, I am going to be in the market for a number of frags. The flatworm issue and other pests which I have read/heard about has convinced me that having a QT even for coral is one of the best preventative measures to protecting the DT. So here is my idea...

My turn, lost power today ... generator (and dad) to the rescue!

Glad to hear your ok, I think I'm at 121 hours w/o power and counting.... Honda generators FTW!!!

    6 days no power

Sorry for your loss, during Irene I bought a small generator for the tank, since I bought a large portable one (5500 watts), which has been a life saver as I'm too with out power since Sat. I'm in Summit. I think the hour counter on it is 88 hours and counting. I think I'm going to go buy...

    Really - part 2 : need a roofer ASAP

Thanks for the suggestion. My tree service said maybe tomorrow to remove the tree limb, and I spoke to a neighbors contractor and he said he will do the work if the tree is gone. I also receive a reference from reefernet, so I think I'm all set. I am able to catch most of the snow melt in a...

    Really - part 2 : need a roofer ASAP

Well now I have a hole in my roof from a tree limb which hit that house. Water is dripping from the melting snow, so I have a humidifier pump running into a bucket with a long extension cord to power from the generator, with a tube going to the emergency drain from the ac unit in the attic. I...

Welcome To NJRC! Take a minute to introduce yourself

awesome, i love getting my kids involved and they enjoy being able to identify all the different things in the tanks to their friends. One thing to consider during the summer months is the heat. I know in my kids school it can get pretty warm, so a chiller might be needed.

    Really?

Now the power company is saying Thursday till power is restored. Jpc&l sucks. Pse&g seems to have so many more up already.

    Really?

Like the news said in 4 months we have had record heat, an earthquake, a hurricane, and now a record snow fall in October causing more damage in NJ. I hope everyone is safe. My house is w/o power but the new generator is kicking and powering the tank, furnace and fridges. I'm so glad I...

Skimmer goin' nuts...4 days now. Any suggestions?

I use a SWC and water changes and lots of new glue will contribute to the crazyness. I find running carbon clears the issue faster, or at least makes me think it goes away faster. New filter socks are the worse for me. I just open up the skimmer valve and open the drain plug back to the sump...

    my incoming water's TDS is 847 !!!

I have a sediment filter prior to my RO/DI unit. If one recalls, I had problem getting 0 tds from my old unit, so I purchased a new one, used the old sediment filter which uses very cheap filters to feed my newer RO/DI unit. I can say that my new units prefilters are still clean as a whistle...

    Basement Sump Planning – Humidity

I thought salt does not evaporate and stays in the body of the water, which is why top off is with fresh RO/DO water. I would agree that if there is some splashing, that the saltwater would be transfer that way. I think the salt creep is due to the salt water being physically transferred and...

    A nice surprise

Picture will be tough, they decided to make the home on the side of the tank next to a wall :(

To sock or not to sock?

When I did use socks, I used hydrogen peroxide to clean them. Works almost as good as bleach, but w/o the worry of rinsing well.

    A nice surprise

For a couple of days my watchmen goby has been building or digging a new home, last night I was shocked b/c a pistol shrimp which I put in about 6 months ago appeared with it. I was certain was dead or eaten as I haven't seen it since. A welcome surprise to a recovering tank.

    Starting Bio-Pellets

Lol. Yes actually both. My sump looked like someone with a cold sneezed along the sides. The stink is pretty bad when you open up the collection cup. Just as an FYI, I am no longer running pellets. I had a crash while in use, which I am not in any way implying caused by pellets, but I...

    Starting Bio-Pellets

One downside of biopellets is that the skimmate from the skimmer is really really sticky. :)
