Hi Bob,
Agree wholeheartedly. Only problem is that when the engineer I bought the house off of designed the place, he hated traditional windows. THeres not a single window in the joint that falls within regular style or dimensions. Plus they all open outwards, so I cant even put a portable in.
I know there are a number of Chinese black box lights out there that do well.
Anyone hear anything about the Chinese chillers? They're running about 1/4 of the price, which means I'd usually stay away, but wondering if there are any that end up being worthwhile.
Thanks again J. Still have LED stuff in my head and was worried that 4 bulbs would burn out coral. Gotta get my head around fact that PAR isn't a major factor in T5.
Bot, that was my intial thought with the Hydras, but I'm going to try running with T5s for a bit as I've never gone full T5. Plus...
Tank came in, much smaller than expected.
36' long, 12" high, only 10" width. I think I may be able to get by with 2 bulbs pretty easily.
Thoughts? Is 4 still better even in a small are like that?
Just curious to see how everyone is. Its usuallu about now Carla and I are having the summer bash and catching up with folks.
Us, we're good. Carla had the CoVid early on and was in hospital for a few days, but the rest of us were spared or didn't show any symptoms.
Carla is back in work now...

I'll soon MAYBE, be posting 2x 3/4" sea swirls with DC pump.
Don't want to give these up but don't think they'll fit in the new system.
Had these made just under 2 years ago, will...
Thanks all for the help and advice, especially jgraz, he wins an internet.
So, you'd think a 4 bulb, 36"tank mount T5 would be easily found.
In reality there's only one, and its taped to the back of the jackelope in BIgfoot's pocket.
Eventually found this, can go 4 or 6 bulb. I'm thinking 6...
Cool deal, thanks for the info.
Never went T5, might be interesting.
I'll look into this...
But, being brand new to fiull T5, some questions if anyone has the time.
1. Tank is 35.5"L x 14"W (13" depth) and will be mixed reef with sps center and high.
I'm assuming a 4 bulb T5 unit at 36" length...
In redaing on the T5s I was under the impression that a 30" should cover a 36" with 3" of low light drop on the edges.
With a mixed reef I thought that might be ideal for lower light level corals.
So, the IM 30g reef is on its way, and I need a lighting solution.
Mixed reef, ony 18-20" deep, 36" length.
I want to keep this tank clean and streamlined so I wont be hanging fixtures with dangling wired and I'd like to avoid multiple mounts.
I'm thinking along the lines of a single over tank...
In a 45g regular water changes should do fine.
THe problem in the nanos is that whatever you convert to the fuge chamber does not have a lot of surface area, it's much deeper than wider, so light has a harder time penetrating.
Also, fuges require enough water and flow (and space) that cheato...

Hey all.
I just broke down a 40b covered with 1/8" thick pink coraline.
I managed to scrape the coraline off with a razor and get it into some jars.
If I keep them pretty heavily concentrated I should have about 4 of them.
So, if you're looking to pink up your system, first 4 responders can...
