The high ALK and pH have been the only constant in the tank. When I first got a hammer and it died in a 3 day span, I did a bunch of tests to see what did it (HUGE Nitrate Spike(changed sump, stired a bunch of stuff up)) thats when I relized how high it was. The only suggestion I got about how...
pH-8.8
Alk-18 (test is accurate as it's been confirmed by 3 different test kits)
Nitrate-0
Nitrite-0
Ammonia-0
Cal-500 (might have overdosed last time I added some)
Sal-1.026
Phos-0
What might cause these 2 to start bleaching? I've had them for some time now (green slimer begining of april, birds nest mid april) and everything has been looking fine until this last water change I noticed the undersides are looking bleached and they are loosing thier color/browning out...
I also have amphipods in my tank and they are a good cleanup crew. Population right now is like roches. If you shine a flashlight in my tank right now its like tuning a light on in a kitchen in a roch infested house. I also have the shrimp, and snails. About 2 years ago a had a huge shrimp...
I did the rubberband method. I don't know if your are just doing this to make a small frag but you can also cut the whole top off the stalk and mount that and the stalk will grow a new head.
If I had Higher end corals I would probably care more, plus most of the stuff I caught is rinsed in clean water then rinsed in FW then dumped into the tank. Also most of this stuff is food for my eel. ;)
My question is, Is it better for the tank and corals health if you frag? I'm not at that point yet, but when I am, could I just let things go or will fragging help corals fill out(like trimming a bush) and be healthier and stronger overall?

Went out last saturday and just scooped a couple of times. Caught some stuff but nothing crazy. Would have done more but the biting flies were crazy and I had my 3 yr old so I couldn't stay in the marshy bays. I mainly caught grass shrimp and sand shrimp.
