Here is athe latest video of the tank and it’s one year anniversary...
Over the past year I had to deal with the following....
1)Treated yellow and purple tang for fin rot
2)Used a mirror to keep the Powder Blue Tang distracted so he stops chasing the purple tang. Have to do this from time...
Very good question. To me great success in reefing means the following:
1)Fish are happy(stress free), healthy and live a long life, many years depending on the species
2)Good coral growth for a mixed Reef over time.
3)Relatively Algae free environment, not perfect or pristine but not overrun...
I test weekly...
PH - API kit
Salinity- Refractomer
Alk - Hanna
phosphate - ULR Hanna
Calcium - Hanna
Nitrate - Red Sea Pro or Salifert
MG - Salifert
Probably could do, MG and Calc Monthly but playing it safe for now since my tank is only a year old.
I had the same issues for a very long time. I would buy corals and target feed them eventually they looked like they were Starving then close up and die. It was because I had zero nitrates. I now dose KNO3 and my corals are now flourishing. Also, if you have a fuge with macro algae your growth...
I’ll provide my input as well since I’ve stocked my entire tank(so far) with the exception of my brain coral from ACC. I enjoy going into the store, always get attention if I have questions, get good advice, and believe many of the frags are priced right.
For me, I think the selection of the...
I’ve never owned an urchin but have heard they tend to knock the corals all over the place. I happen to think they look really cool.
Do you have one and what do they normally eat?
Happy New Year everyoneand thanks for viewing my progress. Here is my final tank update for 2017.
As a short recap, I rebooted my 175 Gallon Bowfront back in February of 2017 with the ultimate goal of maintaining a mixed Reef Aquarium. At this point things have gone pretty well and through lots...
Just a heads on fish food flakes.
I just bought two bags of flakes from Angelsplus.com. After trying their medicated flakes which I had success treating fin rot on my tangs I just order their regular food. a krill based flake and spirulina based flake.
Very reasonable, fish like eating it and...
yes, the clowns need a time out for sure. I’ve been told they may be establishing their pecking order so going to wait and see. I make sure the black and white clowns get a chance to eat and maybe they will work things out. They are pretty smart at darting back into their caves where the Orange...
Time for a monthly update and a few things to report.
All in all things are doing well, all SPS are showing growth but have run into a few snags...
1)I noticed my hammer starting to shrink, recede. It turned out I stopped dosing KNO3 by accident and my nitrates were zero for about two weeks...
You are very welcome. At this point, I am totally convinced my LPS corals were starving due to lack of Nitrates. I am still dialing in my KNO3 dosing and have witnessed another interesting thing.
I’ve had a couple instances where my KNO3 dosing went offline, the nitrates went back to zero and...
I’m into large scale RC car racing...
We race Thursday nights at Wall Township Speedway and race once a month on the weekends in Williamstown, NJ.

I just rebooted my system and went with all dead rock. When I first started my tank 12 years ago and spent a ton of money on lots of live rock. That was the theory back then.
I’ve had my rebooted tank up since February and have tons of pods and now getting my coralline algae to start to cover...
