    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

I picked up a few more corals on the weekend.. A really nice Wellsophillia from Tropiquarium 4 acro frags from ACC 1 froggspawn and Zoa frag from ACC... they all seem happy and acclimated.. If these do well, I should have my tank stocked by end of winter. So far so good. Here are some pics...

11/05/2017 - Poll Of The Day - Running of Lights

I run my actinics from 9-9, halides ramp up left to right over the tank from 1 to 7. If I get up early On the weekends and want to watch the tank I use the Apex to turn on the actinics, makes it easy.

    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

Totally agree. I struggled for years trying to keep corals and had a lot of Dino in my tank as well and could not figure out what was going on. My corals would look good for a month or two and then slowly declined and appeared to be starving even though I was trying to target feed them. Nothing...

    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

Another month of progress with my rebuild, so far so good and happy to report some progress on a number of fronts. next week I plan to add a few more corals to the tank and a mandarin fish. I am so enjoying my tank at the moment! 1)Still getting very low Nitrate readings(0-.25 ppm reading)...

    Pump and powerhead discussion

not sure I understand the question, but I’ve always assumed a skimmer provides enough oxygenation for a tank. The power heads are for water flow for corals and to suspend nutrients. I guess having a battery backup air stone could be a good thing, right now I have a single Tunze pump configured...

    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

Another month of progress with my rebuild, so far so good and happy to report some progress on a number of fronts. 1)The fin rot on my tangs have totally regenerated. It appears that the medicated food really did the trick. 2)All three tangs seem to be playing nice. I keep them well fed. 3)All...

    Coral discussion

I prefer a mixed tank for my rebuild. That is, Zoanthids, LPS, and a handful of SPS. My new tank is about 6 months old and so far I have had success with a Montipora, Acropora, Hammer, Torch, Mushrooms, and Zoanthids. Hopefully things continue to go well as I add a few more over the fall and...

Max's Shallow Reef: An epic adventure of corals, fine beer, nonsense, and general insanity.

I would agree with slowly increasing the size of the hole or using a small valve to control the air, The other thing is you want the tubes to not have any extra loops going into the sump. That is, go directly into the sump or go to the base of the stand then into the sump, but any more curves...

    Neptune APEX DOS

I have three of them and think they are very good and love the fact they are integrated into the Apex. I also like that they are easy to calibrate and the head/tubing unit is replaceable. I use one for Auto water change, ATO-Kalk, and dosing. I have had no problems at all and have been using...

    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

Angelsplus.com From what I read the gram negative food with kanamycin was probably all I needed since most bacterial infections in marine animals are gram negative but I ordered both just to be sure.

    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

Now an update on my first batch of Corals I purchased from ACC. I had them in QT for about two weeks, killed some aptaisia off of the zoanthid and decided to put them into the DT since they did not look all that happy in the QT. My QT is probably not well suited for corals, but at least I got to...

    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

ok, another tank update. So far so good. I've been feeding the fish medicated food for the past month. Twice a day with Gram positive food, and twice with gram negative food and the Tang fin recession is recovering very nicely. All that needs to finish growing back is the Yellow top rear dorsal...

    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

For the QT I run the 50/50 actinic/10k power compact. 65watts each. The DT has 3 250watt 20k bulbs. For dusk/dawn I have two 180 Watt actinic. I like the look of the bluer bulbs, but not sure if the corals will like them but will find out pretty soon.

    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

Ok. it is finally time to start to stock my QT tank with some Corals. Picked up 4 frags this weekend and so far so good. I am glad I am going the QT route since one Coral had a tiny aptaisia on it and I zapped it today. One thing I found interesting is I have PC lights on my QT tank, the corals...
