Plusrite MH bulbs, some may have had good result with them. But with my Hamilton Electronic Balast they would fry, literal burn out and get so hot they would melt the glass or explode.
I have a 30" sump, was made by ETSS and is about 12 years old. stopped using it about 5 years ago. I modified it a bit with a couple large holes for a external return pump and external Downdraft skimmer.
I love the smell of polyurethene In the morning. One more coat and I can start re-assembling the sump, refugium, skimmer, pumps and my new Apex system. It's my first time using a full control system, I love setting all the components up. Lot's of fun.
The work continues. Cleaned out the two sumps in the basement, cleaned the Bubble King skimmer and Cleared and sanded the the sump table. Making progress... Next step trying to figure out if I need a new aquarium since the front seams have eroded and one of the top braces broke away.
Next up, my two feed pumps. Two Eheim 1250, one feeds a bubble king external skimmer and the other feeds both a GFO and a Carbon canister.
one of theses died after about three years, they require cleaning every 3 - 6 months or the calcium build up will freeze them. Very easy to disassemble...
A little Sunday morning pump cleaning session.
I've had these Iwaki 55RLT pumps for 12 years. This is only the fourth time I have cleaned them. It's amazing how little calcium buildup happens with theses pumps.
They are a great basement sump type pump due to the fans on them being relatively...
I was looking on-line for tutorials and saw a method where you remove the silicon from the inside except you don't remove the silicon from between the glass in the joint. I know some of the deterioration is between the glass in the joint. JUst wondering if by just removing the glue inside would...
I am in the process of rebuilding my 175 bowfront aquarium and notice what looks to me like the silicon in the tank seams are starting to deteriorate. PLease take a look at the photos and let me know your thoughts and if there is a way to repair it. The tank is empty right now and is about 12...
Well, I had a bad Aptasia, flat worm, bubble algae and Dino infestation so trying to do everything I can to start fresh and pest free.I used to call my aquarium "Joel's tank of death". LOL

Thanks, It is an Oceanic Systems tank I bought back in 2004. It's oak with a cherry wood stain. I think they discontinued building large glass tanks and stands a number of years ago.
Drained Drained my display tank and sumps, getting closer to my re-build. Next steps are to clean all the pumps, re-lacquer my sump table, scrub down tanks and sumps.
Looking to be up and running by end of November. Not in a rush and taking my time.

Today I soaked the last of the rock in Muriatic acid. Now just soaking in RODI water, will chech for phosphates, then done treating all the rock.
Now that all the sand is out of the display and sump, next step is going to drain and dissinfect the tank and sump and clean all the pumps and...
An interesting issue I came across. I put the cleaned rock in RO-DI to test for phosphates. I have about 15 gallons of water in each container. The PHOS reading has been around .15ppm so I added 1ml of Aget Green, Lanthanum Chloride to wipe out that amount of phosphate. Based on the instructions...
