    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

Ok, the tank has been up and running now for over a week. Fixed a few small leaks. Programmed the Apex to get the basic functionality going. I must say, it is quite a system, just amazing what you can do with it and the support from Neptune has been very good. At this point I've been testing...

    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

Got the tank filled, making up some more water to fill the sump and get the return pumps working. Programmed the Apex system to turn the Tunze and lights on. The Apex is a very comprehensive system. Looking forward to getting into some of the advanced programming.

Well, could have been much worse, but murphey's law has a way of rearing it's head once and a while. Glad it wasn't too bad.

    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

Ok, it time for some H2O!!! Once the tank is filled, I am going to test again for phosphates and use Agent green to draw the remaining phosphates out. Then add sand and start to stock the tank.

    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

Ran the Cat-6 wire for the Apex to connect to the internet. Even though the new Apex can be run off a wireless connection they still recommend a wired connection so took care of that. Also connected the remote power bar in the tank stand with a 45' Aquabus cable. Today I planed out my initial...

Finishing up the loose ends before water goes in the tank either next week or the following week. PAtch up cracked plastic tank braces, connected sea swirls, and installed Apex Fish Feeder. Got around to patching the plastic top tank braces with Marine Epoxy and fiberglass tape. I would have...

    Black or blue tank backround

you may want to check out these vinyl background material from bluelifeusa.com, it is a car like wrap that goes on super easy. Comes in both Blue or black. I went with the black. I like the contrast of the bright colors of the fish and corals against the black background.

    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

Well, I am not really sure yet since this is the first time. It turns out that since I am now using the Apex controller for the Tunze it won't work the way I planned. If I was still using the Tunze Multi-Controller it would have worked fine, but with the Apex, I will need to find a way to power...

    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

I also had a chance to install the electronics back into the cabinet this weekend. Installed my remote Apex power bar, VDM module to control my 4 Tunze Stream Pumps, SEA Swirls, and Apex Par Meter Module, hallide ballasts, VHO Balast, and UV Unit and Balast, and a battery backup for one of the...

    Joel's 175 Gallon Re-build

Next up, cleaned up my halide/VHO lighting system. Was thinking about going LED, but figured it would be very expensive due to this being a 6 foot tank so I stocked up on some bulbs from Hamilton lighting for the next 24 month, they had a good sale on 20,000K 250 Watt bulbs so going to go with...

    Freshoffthegrill's 120G Reef Tank

Looks great. I've only had one anemone which was a bubble tip. I was easy to care for and the clowns did host in it. I would have to hand feed it to make sure it had enough nutrients. Bits of shrimp etc.
