My reef has suffered a bit lately. I changed my lights without sufficient acclimation and ended up hurting a lot of corals, killing some outright. I have some sweet stuff I have to sell anyway.
My beautiful green "Kedd's Table" died back. I saved a bunch of frags and they are doing very well...
Three VERY little bears and their mom got stuck in a tree by my house. Now I'm gonna have a pair of boots, a hat, AND a rug! Just kidding but I did get some pretty good pictures...
Big Momma!
Best to just take a nap...

Anybody else see the November FAMA? The thing is only 80 pages, it's like a booklet! Pretty sad, I only get it so I can read the ads, now there's hardly enough to make a decent size magazine. :'(
Just FYI for anyone with one of these or considering one: Once it's out of warranty...
They don't like to sell replacement motors. They told me "after we mark it up, it is just $20 less than the cost of new pump."
They did offer to sell me a new pump at a discount.
For those who consider...
AV Geek Man, Help!
I am trying to find the best way to play my huge (legal) MP3 collection over my home theater receiver. I thought I was being clever and bought a DLNA-Compliant NAS Drive (Iomega) but that's only one piece of the puzzle. (although now I can look at all my digital photos on my...
I was looking into my tank just as the lights went out, and I heard a *splish* and a wet *smack* -- my first jumper. My "yellow coris" wrasse hit the wall behind the tank and ended up on the floor, right in the middle out of reach. He was probably on the floor for 3 minutes while I tried to grab...

Here is the our first 2009 bear sighting here in Rockaway. That bear looks too small to be the mother of three cubs...
But look at those, uh, bear teats. That's the momma alright.
Time to take down the ground birdfeeder, I guess...

Hey, where's Mom go?
Green birdfeeder, I just...
Here's an exciting topic. Has anybody here in NJ successfully replaced their lawn with Zoysia grass?

I have some problem spots on my property, and it's either zoysia or ASPHALT, but I don't know how well it works in Jersey.
Not much fish variety but still cool:

To those of you who have your topoff go through a kalk reactor:
If the kalk reactor is in mix mode, and the topoff is triggered, doesn't it blow cloudy water into your tank?
I originally had my stir and topoff set to coincide, that added cloudy water everytime. Now I have a regular stir, but it...
I am going away for a week or so and of course I can't check my reef. I have had occasional problems with my Ca reactor clogging and filling with gas. I was thinking I would just turn off the gas while I was gone. Would this cause my Ca levels to plummet? I have a bunch of corals, frags mostly...
I was annoyed to see that the timers for my lights were running an hour late...and then I remembered DST. I thought about changing the time on my AC-3, and then realized that the animals in the tank don't know or care about DST, so you're subjecting them to an unwelcome change. In the end, I...
I am trying to get my VHO actinics hooked up and I am reusing the wiring harness from my old Hamilton system. Of course I removed the wiring from the old unit without labelling it very well ::).
Question:
I have two VHO tubes to hook up, which means a total of 8 connections. There are only 6...
