Definitely a Cowrie. Most of them come from Hawaii.

They are Green Star Polyps, GSP. They close like that all the time.

I've kept one in my sump for about 6 months. I feed him silversides. One day I was working on another sump about 10 feet from that sump. I felt something walk acroos my foot. Yep, the crab climbed out of the sump and was walking my floors. He grew from an inch to 6 inches in 6 months.

Doesn't matter that much. I've always used acrylic and silicone on glass. The preassure is pretty much even on both sides of the baffle.

The differance in your crab and the mithrax is the claws, like Jeff said. The mithrax has flat spots on the ends of their claws and predators don't. Remove him to the sump.

The only thing that would work is liquid rubber in a can used to dip tools in, which would cost more then a new PH.
