It has arrived.............. OMG, this is scary

Wendy, your tank is very beautiful, I wish I could do as well as you do! I've started to get a lot of cyano since I started dosing vodka, but I don't know if there's a connection. The cyano seems to grow and fade, like it's nutrient deprived, which is a good thing. Big sheets peel off the...

    Cleaning pumps?

I think vinegar is great for cleaning pumps. Don't forget to diassemble the pump to get out the deposits once the acid loosens them. You could certainly clean your skimmer with vinegar, but maybe just wiping it clean is better. If you clean the inside with vinegar it will have to "break in" again.

    Ceriantharia (tube) Anemonies?

Absolutely Fish in Clifton alway seems to have them. I've never owned one, but: Pluses: Fairly hardy, hardier than some commonly sold anemones. Very colorful Minuses: Somewhat strong sting, may harm fish. Not really an anemone, it's a worm. Not an actual reef creature, more of a mud bottom thing.

    really bummed.

Damn, I'm sorry to hear that. What could have gone wrong? Well, on the plus side, when you restart the tank it will have been "pre-disasterized!"

    My DIY Kalk Reactor

Had a near-disaster when the single solenoid stuck. Put approx 1/2cup of kalk into the system in minutes, raised the pH to 8.4, would have been worse but I quickly saw what was happening. ANYBODY who uses these solenoids, the ones from ATO.com, needs to check them regularly. mine stuck open and...

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

The Red Planet has stayed red and green but the tricolor is turning a revolting shade of brown. Yeccch. I had a nice, growing, green polyp birdsnest frag fall right onto a hyndophora colony and get mostly digested. You would think I would know better by now. It was kind of a freak accident, a...

    Calcium Reactor and Vacation

I've been watching my CR more closely and I think that a higher bubbble count = lower pH in the reactor = more clogging. I'm going to dial back the CO2 and hope for the best!

    Zoysia Grass

I know the look, and it's not great, but I have only one way to get though to the back yard on the side of the house, and every year I get grass growing there, and every year it gets trampled to death. Additionally, the front yard by the street is sloped, and it's very hard to get the grass to...

    Zoysia Grass

Here's an exciting topic. Has anybody here in NJ successfully replaced their lawn with Zoysia grass? http://www1.zoysiafarms.com/ I have some problem spots on my property, and it's either zoysia or ASPHALT, but I don't know how well it works in Jersey.

    Profiting off the uninformed

Been going on forever. When I worked at "Ed's Tropical Aquarium," we used to give away FREE GOLDFISH! I never let one of those things out of the store without at least $20 worth of stuff in little bottles, and that was back in 1977!

where can i buy cheap feeder rats for snakes?

What I used to do was shoot pigeons and mourning doves with a pellet gun and feed those to my retics. I don't know if that's legal anymore, but they sure got big eating pigeons.

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

I moved my Ca reactor to the top of my bench today, it was nice to have it tucked away underneath, but it needs to be watched more closely so it doesn't clog. Already replaced the black effluent tubing with clear, which allows me to see when the flow is slowing down. Plus, changed carbon and GFO...

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax Nice pictures, Bax. Did you take those with the the underwater camera? That shot of your RBTA could be in the MOMA, it's a science fiction nightmare/hallucination! The valida is growing great for me but the nana is barely hanging on. I don't get it. Any...
