    Britain's Got Talent: Susan Boyle

She sang a little bit for one of the news shows...she's th real deal! My take is that she can only sing THAT ONE SONG. Kinda like that singing frog in the old Warner Bros. cartoon.

    Paint for background?

I think if there was a painted or otherwise black background and it was just not touching the back of the tank, the effect will be preserved.

    Buying Trex

That's good info guys, I think it might be worth skipping HD and going to a specialist... But the one thing ArZee DOESN'T SELL is Trex! ;)

    Buying Trex

LOL, I was just checking out the lousy job somebody did on my sister's Trex deck. Every single screw is mushroomed in! Oy vey, maybe I'll just spray it with pickup bed liner!

    Paint for background?

Not to be a party pooper, but you might want to reconsider painting the back if you plan to grow corals. Jim Fatheree from TFH did a study a while back, it was in the magazine and presented at MACNA, and the UNPAINTED back of a tank reflects quite a bit of light back into the tank, due to the...

I think so...I'll have a look when I'm in tha garage later.

    Buying Trex

Thanks, that's a lot cheaper than the Trex I was looking at.

has anyone drilled a hole for a reflo dart/snapper pump?

I did it. Twice. If you check my "jimroth" build thread you can see pictures. Because of the size of the hole, it takes a long time, even with a new bit. If you can, drill from the inside of the tank to the outside so that any chips are on the outside where they won't interfere with the bulkhead...

    First Bears of the Season

I've seen all those except the bobcat. Always want to see one. Have you seen one? We don't have porcupines, but I've seen them in the Del. Water Gap. I know what you mean about dophins, I was watching a pod of about 20 from my hotel balcony in Va Beach last week. In Rehoboth Del. you can...

    First Bears of the Season

I don't really know what the deal is with the bears. "We" may have moved into their territory, but "we" lived there for 12 years before we saw a doggone bear!!! What happened, is it the decline of hunting? I understand that seals (the water version of bears) are now breeding in NJ, is mother...

    First Bears of the Season

I love to see them, but they are a nuisance. We have to use a specially modified garbage can, or they take out they garbage and make a huge mess. They have wrecked several birdfeeders, as you might guess. They drive the dog nuts, he starts howling, usually around 5AM. We use a slingshot or...

    First Bears of the Season

Here is the our first 2009 bear sighting here in Rockaway. That bear looks too small to be the mother of three cubs... But look at those, uh, bear teats. That's the momma alright. Time to take down the ground birdfeeder, I guess... MINE! Hey, where's Mom go? Green birdfeeder, I just...

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Couple Fresh Pics Well, not that fresh, I took these before vacation. Tank is still recovering a bit. The end-to-end pics show the improvement in water clarity I attribute to VSV dosing. Elvis likes to swim upside down. He's getting bigger and fatter! Did a really stupid thing this...

    Buying Trex

Oh yeah, that ironwood would be sweet. Why not go all the way and makie it out of teak, like a sailboat deck? Just a little tung oil every year and you're set!  :) My main goal is to have a surface that requires NOTHING (but cleaning) from me on a yearly basis. Do you think HD would be cheaper...

    Buying Trex

I need to buy a bunch of Trex to resurface my deck. Is there any place that's cheaper to get it, or any way to get it cheaper?

    My DIY Kalk Reactor

I mad an important discovery about the design. It works better if you completely fill the cannister with water after adding the kalk powder and closing the lid. The air gap I was allowing actually causes problems. With no air gap the device can siphon more efficiently.

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

I went away for six days with no support for the tank except feeding, and everything was OK when I got back! The Ca reactor got half full of gas, but kept working. The kalk reactor worked fine -- I've discovered it works best if there is no air gap between the top and the solution. Came back to...

    Fans VS. Chillers

I've only ever used fans. It's easiest if the tank is open-top. I'm keeping a chiller handy though, just in case!

It has arrived.............. OMG, this is scary

No I didn't know if you were using it. In your tank, anyway. I though if you were using it, that might be a cause of your cyano issues. Just another data point.
