Ken. First try wrapping the threads with more tape. Even 10 wraps wouldn't hurt. If you sealed the threads with silicone,it's still not guarantied to stop.

You can also put a piece of rock in the sump at a time to make sure your spikes are small enough to do a small water change if needed.
