That is a very cool video. It's neat that the guy is definitely a reefer. Eric Bornemann talked about corals being out of the water, and he added a couple things:
1) The corals that live in that zone are the corals that can stand being out of the water. The ones that can't stand it (there are...
To those of you who have your topoff go through a kalk reactor:
If the kalk reactor is in mix mode, and the topoff is triggered, doesn't it blow cloudy water into your tank?
I originally had my stir and topoff set to coincide, that added cloudy water everytime. Now I have a regular stir, but it...
You are too funny Bax. Do you say a magic spell too, or perhaps bury a statue of a saint in the gravel?
I don't do anything for a week before I go away, too many people have been bit! Murphy's law is a bitch. Cleaning the skimmer sounds like a good idea, though. I suppose I should give the valve...
That's Brilliant! Access is just though the top, right? If it was mine, I would find a plastic pan or tray to fit in the bottom, it looks like it's compressed wood and if you're gonna drip water or spray a lot for the little darlings, it will need to be protected.
I am going away for a week or so and of course I can't check my reef. I have had occasional problems with my Ca reactor clogging and filling with gas. I was thinking I would just turn off the gas while I was gone. Would this cause my Ca levels to plummet? I have a bunch of corals, frags mostly...
Nice photo! Birgus latro is very much like a big hermit crab, except no snail shell. They are land crabs, some people seem to have missed that, and the world's largest terrestrial arthropod!
Reproduction, larval and small stages are in the water.
Always want one for a pet, eventually found out...
I was annoyed to see that the timers for my lights were running an hour late...and then I remembered DST. I thought about changing the time on my AC-3, and then realized that the animals in the tank don't know or care about DST, so you're subjecting them to an unwelcome change. In the end, I...
Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax
Geez, Bax, I thought I was the only person who did stuff like that! I once took out 20 servers at once by walking across their power cords. I don't think (NAME REMOVED TO PROTECT THE GUILTY)-dot-com ever recovered!
I am trying to get my VHO actinics hooked up and I am reusing the wiring harness from my old Hamilton system. Of course I removed the wiring from the old unit without labelling it very well ::).
Question:
I have two VHO tubes to hook up, which means a total of 8 connections. There are only 6...
Man, that is the definition of ironic.
It's a shame there's no "Pocillopora-eating-flatworm or nudibranch" you could introduce, something Pocillopora-specific.
Almost all the lab work done with corals is done with Pocillopora because it's so, um, durable.
So, I'm picturing a kind of home made...
LOL, we used to get saltwater from Biscayne Bay back when I was in college, and we'd take my friend's old 1980 K5 Blazer. A couple times a barrel fell over and dumped saltwater into the car's hidden recesses. Those rusted out in short order!
