I know! I was shocked. I think he did something wrong with the thing.
As for mine -good question! I've been relying upon the 40 gallon bags per Reef Crystals. What I mean is that I have a 55 gallon bucket that is marked off for 40 gallons. I fill up to the line, and then add a full bag...
All - over the course of several months, a friend of mine has been diligently changing the water in his tank, except only last weekend (when i went over) did he realize his refractometer (from marine depot) was calibrated erroneously. I checked his salinity and it read 10ppm. But his...
Wow a lot happened in a short period of time. So is the prizm skimmer still ok to use? Seems like the O-ring didn't move by itself right? or you think it was defective?
Speaking of "almost"...I lost internet access last night and was thinking that was strange - and then shortly thereafter we...
A good friend of mine had at attend the funeral of an 18yr old (courtney) who died over the weekend in a car accident in PA. They were going out early in the morning to Buffalo, NY to fund-raise for pediatric cancer (it's an annual thing the kids at PSU do).
I guess this post is just to...
That is really good customer service, although one would argue they should have shipped you the right item the first time.
Anyways - just curious why you chose this site versus say a store like That pet Place in lancaster? They actually have a storefront where you can browse the stuff. It...
i used treated tap water in manhattan. I also kept astrea snails for over 4 years that were the size of half dollar coins. they were Mexican turbo sized...hahaha there was a lot of algae that grew. But a non sps tank can be easily kept in my opinion, in fact there were studies on soft corals...
I doubt a hawkfish would have any chance of consuming a pistol shrimp that has a goby at the entrance. Unless you're saying the goby is seriously undersized for defending the burrow.
NJReefer - i usually take out over a gallon worth of the stuff. Do you need a gallon's worth or just a sandwich bag? Are you near central/edison NJ? There is no cost if you pick it up.
A controller is a nice to have. No where does it say to have a TOTM that you need a controller. if you have spare cash -then sure go ahead. Otherwise in my opinion corals just want distributed wide flow - whether it comes from one direction or not is not relevant.
Anyways if you go down the...
Believe it or not, a lot of the stuff that encrusts in the gulf is not necessarily easy to keep in our tanks. Like i said, my only experience was with one company that ships their LR in water and I had to go to JFK airport (CARGO) (when I lived in Ny) to pick up the shipment. It was teeming...
i ordered LR once from a florida/gulf of mexico operation -they only guaranteed pick up at the airport/overnight shipping. but they shipped the LR in water so it was super heavy - and super alive with both bad and good hitchers.
If you are getting LR shipped like this - most of the stuff...
ok i just did a quick read...hahah.
1 cup per 50 gallons of water - so that means 2 cups for me - but everyone says start slow - with daniel mentioning 1/3 the recommended....so that means maybe a little over half a cup to start?
Also - what taz said with regards to his skimmer is the same...
hey guys - sorry it's been so long to report results. I finally had time to dig thru all my stuff at home and open up the octopus reactor i got from the group buy. this site has a very good review and pics -...
I've been eyeing that lens also...for $100 you really can't go wrong. Believe it or not it was selling for a higher price overseas in Hong Kong. I may just try that lens first and see how it goes. I thought this was the reefkeeping hobby? LOL.
george - i agree with what others have said about going to the store and trying some of the cameras. If you want to try out my 30d one day - let me know.
Haha but that's what a separate macro lens is for right - a specific purpose. In my case it's corals in a tank. for others it may be flowers outside, insects on plants, or whatever. I can wish for a lens for christmas right? hahah.
Like you said - if you have a tripod/good lighting - you're...
