180g In-Wall Reef

Tank is looking bad ass!!! I really can't wait until I get the chance to upgrade :( It seems like it will never come as we are now looking at buying something and it makes no sense to upgrade until that is settled.

well as long as you are not also selling a house, now is the time to buy! when we were house hunting the house had to have two things- a finished basement so i could build a bar and a place for an in-wall tank!

Thanks!

By the way, the green hair algae seems to be a thing of past. i think it was a combination of the 50% water change (about 125 gallons) and the introduction of the clean up crew that cleared up this problem.

so, the current set-up is as follows

180g Display Tank with about 350lbs of Live Rock, 180lbs of Live Sand, 72' Current USA Outer Orbit Fixture (3x250w 10k MH's, 8x39w T5 Atinic's, 24 Blue/White Lunar LED's), 4 Hydor Koralia-4's, Fluval FX5 (Carbon & Phosban)

55g Sump with 2 Ebo Jager 250w Heaters, MRC-2 Skimmer with Mag-18 Pump, Mag-9.5 Return Pump for DT, Mag-7 Return Pump for Refugium, Auto Top-Off Precision Marine Kalk Reactor

55g Refugium with about 60lbs of Live Rock, 110lbs Live Sand, 48' JBJ 2x65w 10k & 2x65w 50/50's PC's

All suggestions & advice welcome!!!!!

Update-

Last week I added a couple True Perc's and a few Green Star Polyp & Red Star Polyp colonies.

Two days ago I picked up a used Coralife 1/2 HP Chiller

Yesterday I added 100 more Turbo Snails and built a shelf/stand for the chiller

Today plumbed the Chiller in-line with my Fluval FX5 Canister Filter

Will add some new pics shortly......

I just picked up four Bartlett Anthias from AO, so why they are acclimating, I figured I would upload some pics!

Since the last time I posted pics I have added a pair of True Perc's, a couple Green Star Polyp Colonies, a Red Star Polyp Colony, more turbo snails, and a piece of LR with some Mushrooms

I will post some pics of the Anthias once they get comfortable.

Hoping to add some Zoos soon!

Just realized I never posted any pics of my 4 Barltett Anthias. Although it is unlikely I will get all 4 together in one shot since they are not quite a harem. More of a pair and two other individuals.

So I had to remove the orange coral that you see in the pics posted above, I am not quite sure what kind of coral it was, it came with my Live Rock shipment. For some reason it was deteriating and all the hermits crabs seemed to like eating it???

But I have added a Xenia to compensate for my lose. It was a gift from a friend of mine who for some reason doesnt like computers- so he is not a member. Weird dude, but free coral none the less.

I also picked up a Frogspawn frag (3 heads) from Jucie44 (Jason) earlier this afternoon for $20. Nice piece, great deal for 20 bucks! It is acclimating now.

I then drove from Clifton (Absolutely Fish) where I meet Jason down to Ocean Township to meet Hayabusa2003 (Jonathon) at Tropaquarium. I had never been there before. I was quite impressed with their tanks and livestock to say the very least. But, I was not so impressed with their prices. I was VERY impressed with Jonathon's prices- FREE! He was kind enough to donate these three frags for free- Green Hairy Mushroom (2), Purple-Tipped Digi, and a Green/Purple Rim Cap!!!!! These, too, are acclimating.

I will try to take some pics today or tomorrow and get them posted on here.

nice update! I could be wrong but I think richard suggests keeping the orange coral in a darker part of the tank. I guess it's too late but it is tough to keep all the stuff alive from TBS.

How's the cleanup crew? Did richard also give an extra sand cuke?

oh i didnt know that about that orange coral! i still have another piece that seems to be doing better, i guess i should try moving it a lower spot.

the clean up crew is good, i have some spots of green algae that i wish they would, but nothing major, just a few re-occuring spots on a couple pieces of LR.

yes Richard did through in an extra sand cuke!

all in all, i was pleased with TBS. i love the fact that there was so much coraline coverage. but that being said, if i could do it over again, i might go with macro rocks to avoid the mantis shrimps i got with TBS.

nice...i think the best of the two worlds would be getting that kind of coralline covered tbs LR and using it to seed the marco rocks I keep hearing about.

I am not positive on the orange coral - so check with richard - maybe he'll know.

will do!

my advice to anyone getting TBS would be to dip all pieces of LR in fresh water for about 10 seconds first. yes you cause so some additional die off, but you will get those mantis shrimps before they get into your tank.

Added some Kenya Tree and Red Mushrooms today.

Been slacking on pics! I am supposed to pic up some neon green candies and a zoo frag tomorrow, that should be enough for me to take some new pics and upload them.

Looking good!

I dipped and scrubbed and all that and still ended up with at least three mantis in my original 0 pounds of TBS. Over four years and over 250 pounds of new rock later and I still think I have a TBS mantis in there ::) ... what are you going to do?

Richard will have a pretty good idea what the orange pieces are.

You may want to isolate the GSP. Once it takes hold it will really start to spread and can overwhelm zoos and even some SPS.

I agree with Bax about the GSP -- you can peel it off the walls and substrate, but it's hard to get it off of live rock.

Beautiful pix, your tank is really coming along nicely!

Just added a two purple & green brain corals from AO. And a Scooter Blenny.

I havent taken any pics in quite a while, all my corals have grown a lot since my last pics. I didnt really notice until I looked at the pics in this thread.

I want to add another fish, maybe a wrasse or a Juv Angel. Just havent made up my mind yet.

Unfortuneatly I am still battling byprosis! I tried raising the Mag level but it did nothing, guess I should try again. I add a PhosBan Reactor a while back, Phosphates are reading zero. Not sure what causes Byprosis, all other water parameters seem to be in check.
