Well I'll tell ya something, when I started my freshwater tank, I did alot of things "off the book" And I currently have a 50 g with no problems. I ordered a starfish, a serpant to be exact. And I'm going to use the drip method to acclimate him bc thats what I know how to do. And I will just see how it goes, I believe that I can do it and everything will be fine. There is no but what if's. I will raise him in the tank and he will do just fine. Its because I moved my rocks twice in 2 days that everything got all fouled up, I am using not only the rio skimmer, but the 30 g aqauaclear to help out as well. Its not the ideal setup but it's working for me and thats all I'm concerned about.
OK so everyone is trying to be really nice, but it's time for me to be the bad guy.
I stopped posting to your thread because YOU DON'T LISTEN!
And many others have as well.
Everything you are being told here is spot on. There are significant differences in the physiology of saltwater organisms that you aren't grasping.
Many of us have kept freshwater as well. I have been doing it for 51 years. I have been keeping saltwater aquariums for 36 years and reefs for 8 years.
You are very lucky that nothing has died so far, and you may continue to be lucky.
I have offered you free frags and invited you to visit. Now I have vented and now I am done.
So as long as you keep telling us what you are going to do after you pretend to listen to the advice you ask for; to quote My Cousin Vinny,"I'm done with this guy!"
Maybe if everyone wasn't so judgmental, I could be somewhere by now, and why am i so luck y that anything hasnt died, my water is fine. I tested it today and intend on getting an even better test kit and refractometer to ensure my water quality is at its best. I know how to handle adversity, and this is all that I'm getting so far, and I'm not one to complain. So I am just going to go on and keep posting and asking for help on things to do, if I get help, awesome if not then I'm sure I'll figure it out. And I do listen to what everyone has to say and I take it into account then make my own decision. If I didnt listen I would've tried to buy corals and all the cool fish I saw but I knew I couldn't get. And I would've used distilled water or tap water to start my tank. But I know how to LISTEN.
I have worked everything out with JR through PM'S. Everything is cool now, I just had a really BAD day yesterday. I didn't mean to offend anyone and I hope everyone will continue to post on the thread. I just had a really bad day yesterday. My bad guys.
I just want to post it public that I got my starfish and am dripping now as we speak. Its been about close to an hour that its been dripping, So I figued I started at about 12:15, 3:30 I should be ready to put him in. I will post pics later
Absolutely, Im checking for them now actually so I'll see whats what. What was your opinion on adding more of a cleanup crew, maybe some blue-legged hermits?

I prefer mostly snails. Blue legs spend as much time hunting snails for shells as they do on cleaning. I like scarlet reef hermits better, but not to many.
I really like cerith snails, nassarius and some turbos.
I didn't know this before, but the blue-legged hermits come in two sizes. The bigger ones are bull-dozers, and knock down every coral you have that's not securely mounted. I don't know how you can tell which is which, but i got them from the same place at the same time, and some of them grew alot bigger than the others.
Alright I'll look into that, the place where I got the starfish on eBay, they will send things in bulk and the shipping would cost less so I'll poke around on there later to see what I can discover. I'll post pics of the starfish later. Im currently using the mysis shrimp to feed the 1 clown I have in there, he loves it. I hope this guy will to
Also my nitrites are at 0
Very odd, the starfish was all curled up and then i just tried to see if he would move, I mean I got him to spread his leags all the way out, but he's not really moving all that much, normal at all?
Alright project starfish is finished for now, I put him in 1st on a rock, then moved him down to the sand, he moved around for a little while and now is currently hiding between two rocks hopefully making a new home and also getting used to his surroundings, fingers crossseddd
Good luck with your new starfish. Can you post a picture? How big is he/she? How was he packed, and what shape was he in when he arrived?
More important question: Did you get some decent test kits other than the all-in-one strip? I'm mean, I'm gonna be honest, I used those strips when I first started my 75 and was testing every single day while I was curing the rock. But as soon as I "thought" the water quality was ok, I went out and bought Salifert kits.
The lights you're looking at should be ok if you're planning on keeping mostly softies.
The other option is to ask the eBay seller if they have a 30in 6bulb light available not listed in the auction or in his store at the momment...since we we know they make it and if you ask he will list it for you. Hopefully the price will be good for you. These are Catalina lights as I have told you. I know Jim and I have them and I think one other guy just got them. Ironically Jim is also the name of the contact person.
A picture would be great. ;D I would see what is available at the frag swap...know some of the people coming have clean up crews and maybe you can save the shipping. FYI I checked out the eBay seller and while he had a good rating the prices were not really jaw dropping super...they were not bad but not as good as our group buys and what a few venders we have will give you.
Yeah I got the starfish today, packed very well. When he spreads out he'd a decent size I'll try to get a pic if he ever comes out haha. Anyway yeah I plan on keep just softies in this tank, so if I'll be alright then those are probably the lights for me. Now you said I can go with the 24" model??
Also I NEVER EVER use the all in one strips, I dont believe in them. I got just a bunch of solutions and test tubes and just tested the water by adding the solution and waiting a littlw while for each test.
