30 Gallon Adventure: R

Also went up to AO today and talked to will, really good guy. But yeah bought 2 emerald crabs and 5 of the scarlet hermits, going to put them in the tank in about 10 min.

I dont really know what time it was actually, kinda was a pain in the ass getting there for the 1st time today, but yeah got 2 green emerald crabs and 5 scarlet hermits. Everyone including the starfish are out now.

ALSO if I could, I'd really like to go with a 24" system, finding a 30" is just really way to difficult. If at all possible, I'd like to do the 24" if that sundial I like doesnt work.

Sundial looks like it'll be the one for me. On MarineDepot.com it has the 30" 4X24 that got really good reviews with people and the soft corals really seemed to benefit from it. It came to 245.04 total on the site so I might go for it, I didnt want to do anything til I get opinions from everyone on here.

Ryan become a member and ask Will at AO what he can get it for you price wise. His prices on lights generally speaking are better then Marine Depot. He matched price I got on my T5s for my fresh water. No shipping but you pay tax.

Alright so I could just message him about the lights that I like and he could get me a discount? When I become a member of course.

So I've been watching my two turbo snails all morning. 2 of them are at the trop of the glass and stuck to each other, a smaller one moving slowly around a bigger one in a circular motion. I was wondering, is it possible that they are mating? Also would that Serpent Starfish go to attack any of the Scarlet Hermits? Also I've come to the conclusion that the small black "snails" I thought I had, are actually 4 small blue-legged crabs. Very small black shell and I saw little blue legs so I guess I just forgot what I actually had lol.

snails do readily try to reproduce (egg laying and what not) but the only ones I've ever seen that were successful are the ones michelle mentioned earlier in this thread - the stomatella ones. I guess the other ones are the pyramid ones but you don't want those.

Tank is doing well. Water is still at the same place it was, which is good. Just trying to save money to get those lights. Other than that all the lovestock is up and around as we speak as well. Just wanted to give an update since no one is really posting.

I really like the Sundial, but it looks like I'll be limiting myself, I mean I really do like it, but the 6X24 gives me alot more light and alot more options. Just wish I could get it for a decent price.

Well neither one is really expensive ... but maybe you could build your own. I don't know how handy you but it might be cheaper. You owe us some new pictures. Can you give a full tank shot...from the distance so as to see the whole picture?

If you are on a very tight budget, you might want to reconsider going with a reef tank right away. This is not the type of hobby where you want to cut corners because you are on a budget.

You will be better off waiting until you can afford a good fixture, than wasting money on a cheaper one that will end up being obsolete. Read Mikenapoli's signature IMO it summarizes this hobby best!!!

Well said. Just wait and save your money for something you will be satisfied with. This is a hobby where you don't want to go for the cheapest option.
