40 Breeder Reef Plan

Guess what I ordered last night guyssss =D

Coralife Super Skimmer Needle Wheel - up to 65 Gallon (Blk friday sale off marinedepot and go it for only $85)

and a 32gal bag of Tropic Marin PRO REEF

:D I can't wait for it to get here, the only thing I'm scared of is if it will fit on the back because the tank is only like 17" high and the skimmer is 20".. Hopefully it'll sit good because if not I might have to return it and I'll be out of luck!

Guys! There's two TINY maybe 1/4th a finger nail sea slugs in my tank (Sluging around with two wisker's and have a tiny bit of Coraline on their backs, almost look invisible bc they are the white sand color but I spotted them together on the live rock), should I take them out of live them alone??

Anthony, I’m willing to bet the “slugs” you found in your tank were actually Stomatella snails. They have a slug-like appearance, only having a partial shell on their backs. Google Stomatella to look at pictures to see if that is what you have. FYI, they are good.

Well they looked just like that, only FULLY cloudy (kinda clear) with a tiny purple on their backs, probably on their "shells" so hopefully everything will be good =D I haven't seen my 1/5th finger nail brittle star ANYWHERE though =( I would be so happy to have a few of them around, i really want that sand clean =D

RedFishBlueFish is most likely right...I had one in my nano that coraline grew on it's back so you coudn't see it unless it moved.

Yea but he isn't local n I don't drive, also I'm more trusty in new rather than used but that's alot buddy!
Did you do any research on the coralife diffuser box? A lot people take them off and put filter socks on.. something to look into later if you get micro bubbles

No, never heard of that but I'll probably look into it soon enough.. Right now my main concern will be seeing if it fits when it gets here, the tank is in the center of my little IKEA table and it's about an inch off the back.. Idk how to move the tank with that much damn water and rock a whole inch, because if i don't I'll be screwed on the whole skimmer!

Just a inch ???

Yes just an inch -_- I'm scared to push the tank because if i do i could possible break the whole table MAYBE, and honestly, I'm not up for that risk..

Really!.. you might be better off and do some plumbing and set the skimmer under the table..if the pump can handle the head loss and still run the skimmer efficiently.. If not efficient you will have to upgrade the pump.. I know it's a bit late now but you had fresh water before and should have known to keep 4 plus inch's free in the back.. BTW hows that AC110 coming along.. going with the Mud MOD? ;D

lol.. I was just busting chops ;D I belong to that other BB too ;)

If you have the space and don't mind seeing the equipment, you could hang the skimmer on one of the sides as well. Doesn't necessarily have to be on the back of the tank.

Yea I'll think of something, but when my cycles up how much of wc do I do?
That's up to you and water Parameters... some people do it weekly some bi weekly some don't do any for months I have read here on NJRC.. Here's some Calculators on the left side to help you decide http://reefcentral.com/

You could even build a little box around the skimmer on the side as Matt suggested.
Big example
http://reef.diesyst.com/images/Back_Side.JPG

I do 10-15% water changes weekly as normal maintance more if there is something I am trying to correct. Doing a larger water change now is going to do zero damage, so if you do 50% moving the tank should be easy. Rock and stuff can be out of the water for the time it takes move the tank...same with corals if they are glued down. But if you are still worried about the table then I am worried that the table will be strong enough over the long haul. I hope it is not particle board or something that will suddenly give out. You figure that the tank is 300+ lbs full.
