40 Breeder Reef Plan

you'll probably have to feed those peppermint shrimp and possibly that bumble bee snail (I don't believe they eat algae but not 100% certain on that) otherwise the peppermints might munch on those ricordia or just die.

Wait, you're saying that if I don't feed the "empty" tank that the shrimp will eat my ric's right up? There's going to be nothing in the tank really except that CUC for the first few weeks really.. =(

Yea, ofcourse, if worse comes to worse I'll use my little betta food =p!

Another question I have is live rock.. What if i wanna add more live rock RIGHT after the cycle like before even adding the CUC... My LFS has LR for $8/lb (Which is where I got this rock) and it's suppose to be "Display" rock, meaning it can go straight from their tank to mine because it's "already cycled".. Do you guys think I should add some more LR after the cycle? I'm scared to say that I feel that there's ALOT of room up top and the rock is all pounded into two small islands..

Also, do you think I should check my Ammonia and Nitrite again now? Checked it last night..

You can put it right in yes just consider it like livestock.
One of the venders was selling some on the board I think.

Don't use fresh water food not really a great idea.

Rockwork is really what YOU like, and it acts as a biological filter.

Alrighty buddy, can you recommend me some kind of food i can find at Petland? I have frozen bloodwords from my freshwater tank still... idk if they're good for saltwater inverts?

Btw should i test again tomo or not waste my testkits?

Any decent brand of salt water pellets will sink and your shrimp will get them.

Test every few days or after each water change.

guys someone wants to sell me a coralife protein skimmer 220 gal size for $75 with a pump.. you guys think thats good for my tank?

I run that exact skimmer on my 90 gallon, and have no issue with it. It's certainly not the most efficient skimmer in the world, but it does a pretty good job for me.

Question though, are you hanging that skimmer on your tank or planning a sump? That's a pretty big skimmer to hang on a 40 breeder.

I don't notice the noise on mine, but mine is not in a main living area, and theres a ton of other equipment running in the room.

I was referring more to having something that large hanging off of the back of a smaller tank. Might be kind of unsightly. If that doesn't bother you, my opinion is that's a good deal, and I think it will more than skim that tank.

My main concern is really hieght and noise, if it's even a big loud I can't have it BC it's in the living room/kitchen where the family is always.

Buddy, that's the exact same skimmer i'm talking about, only for $75 haha!

Guys! There's two TINY maybe 1/4th a finger nail sea slugs in my tank (Sluging around with two wisker's and have a tiny bit of Coraline on their backs, almost look invisible bc they are the white sand color but I spotted them together on the live rock), should I take them out of live them alone??

I don't think coralline algae grow on soft tissue.. You might want a closer look and get a ID on them

well They're gone now Idk where they went so thats too bad =/ They seemed so harmless though haha! Tonight ill hunt again for them though.

As i said in a previous post a magnifying glass helps.. A 5" x5 works for me but hard to find next best one is a 3" x5 you can pic them up really cheap

WOW! Another thing! I just saw one sundial snail on my glass and threw him right into the garbage, also guys I spotted (To my belief is) and BABYYY brittle star.. Not even 1/5th of a finger nail! It was squirming under a rock that i picked up to inspect for pests, should I be worried about them either?
