45 Gallon Custom Marinland Cube Tank Build

So things have finally calmed down in life and its time to set up the new tank. Its a custom drilled 24 x 24 x 18 marineland cube. I just picked up my custom sump on saturday and need to find a protien skimmer for it.

Anyone have suggestions, its got 9.5 by 9.5 area for a protien skimmer.
Im running a mag 7 for my return pump

Good Luck with your build! I have always heard Tunze make good compact skimmers, but I have no direct experience with them, so do not go by my word alone.

that size will fit an aqua c ev 120 - something i'd choose over the urchin which is basically the exact same thing as a remora.

EV-120 will definitely fit and is a good skimmer (I use one on my 75g).

I was going to suggest the Vertex IN-80, but the footprint is 11.5" x 10.75" so it wouldn't fit.

Pretty SnazzY! Looks like it is going to be a fun/cool build.. Best of luck with it... Thanks again for the picotope.. I posted pictures..

what about this

The footprint of that Bubble Magnus is 6.75" x 10.5" . That won't fit in your skimmer compartment.

I've heard some good things about Bermuda skimmers too. The BPS-3C looks like it would work well for you. It's only 7" x 5". They are a bit expensive, but quality products from what I hear.

Just saw one on Ebay for $99.99 (without pump though). Search on Reef Central and/or Craigslist... you might get lucky.

I spoke to CAD and they said it will fit. Once it clears the euro bracing on the sump it will work.

Im still not convinced its the best one.

So i am narrowing it down to the Aqua C and the Bubble mAgnus and bermuda aquatics protein skimmer model 3c

Any last thoughts guys?

Lighting is either a 8 bulb t-5 fixture or a 6 bulb.

More pics and thanks to my saving abilities a silica free sand starter that i saved for four years.

The sump area for the skimmer is 10 x 10 but there is qtr inch euro bracing around it. So i think im going with the NAC7 cone skimmer its rated for such a large tank and has gotten some great reviews.

Looks like it will be a sweet setup! Is that blue tape (or whatever that is) staying on it? It looks pretty cool to me, but in one shot it looks like it's just a protective tape used during shipping.

Also, how deep is your sand? Did you put egg crate down first? If your sandbed is an inch or more deep, I'd recommend putting egg crate down where your rock will go. That way if you have any burrowing critters they won't undermine your rock and cause it to tumble. Sitting it on egg crate will let the rock get a bite to help it stop sliding, and stop it from dropping down on (and possibly cracking) the bottom panel too.

I'd only recommend it if your sand is deep enough to hide it though.

Looking forward to seeing this progress, and the skimmer choice is probably a good one. If the euro bracing makes the skimmer size smaller than your original post, then a cone style will be your best bet. Plus, I hear they work really well.
