600+ Gallon tank build!

600 gallons.....that's close to two and a half tons of water!!! Wow!

I figured about 7000 lbs between tank, water, Rick, and sand. So when getting pricing for a stand I've been saying I need a 4x8' stand that I could park a large truck on... Gives a little perspective to it.

Looking good. Much better when its trimmed.

Much better, it was a bit easier than I though. I was concerned with chipping of melting, none whatsoever, I did 3-4 passes on sections that had more than 3/4" overlap (width of the bit) than hit with the flush bit that I had and finished with the 1/4" round.

Finished cleaning up the overlapped edges, you can see how much it was before, about 1.5" on the one side. Timothy Jr. Wanted to help too... He enjoyed vacuuming up the acrylic shavings.

The lack of chipping and melting is an indicator that they used quality cell cast material instead of the cheaper extruded acrylic. Routing and machining that stuff is a nightmare.

The top and bottom are of a cheaper grade, not that are less strong but the clarity is not as good. When I was running the 1/2"+ bit today I did two passes with no problems. Then went crazy with the 1/4" round bit on all 90 degree corners I could find, no more cut hands for me or any nice volunteers moving. I put moving blankets over corners so no cut straps today either, the hoist worked great.
I think I'm going to build a temporary stand to put it on to polish the interior with tank upside down. Doing this would allow me to stand up and work around chest level, not have to worry about draining water, laying in crappy positions ect.

Started sanding/ polishing today. Started with 1500, but ended up working all the way down to 400, worked back up to 1500, went for 2000 seems I grabbed two 1500 sets, tried to skip to novus 3 but not happy with it... Back to the store tomorrow and try again. Made a stand to work on it for now, but made it small enough so that I am able to use it to wheel into the house when complete!

Polishing went a lot better today, ended up turning tank so that the side I was working on (interior front panel) was facing up, when sanding prior I had vertical, even wig soap it was difficult to keep paper wet. Today I put about 1/4" of water when sanding, rinsed and vacuumed between each grit, results are much better. I don't think I am going to do the outside until I get tank inside, any thoughts?

Second that. The last thing you want in the house is all the dust and water associated with wet sanding etc.

Soooo.... How are you going to light this bad boy?. Oh, and You need one of these.

Somehow I missed the question, I was trying to figure how to get that lift through my door
Lighting plan... I already have LED, I have 4 Vegas, 3 AI SOL white, and 3 AI SOL blue. If that is not enough I still have two 250 watt single ended halide balists, reflectors, and bases I could add. I'm hoping that I don't need to but have available if I do. Anyone want to weigh in if they think it is enough?
Much appreciated

IMHO do it all so there are no surprises later.

I didn't even think about the mess, I think I'm going to do it in the garage the. Wrap with a moving blanket, cardboard, then shrink wrap it together, or is that a little much. My fear is it getting messed up on the trip into the house.

Being someone that just went from all led's(AI VEGA) to a hybrid MH led setup I would recommend leaving room to add the MH if needed down the road. If your planning on having a lot of different types of Acros then I would just add them from the start. Your corals will do much better.

Ah yes room, I'm estimating about 8-10" clearance top of tank to ceiling. That is with a wood stand, im working on figuring out what I would have changing to metal, should give me about 4" more I think.
