Dave, as Paul pointed out in his thread about the razor blades... some stainless steel can still rust (depending on the grade). I think for our purposes, aluminum is a better option if you can get it for any hardware.

So stuff like those picture hangers that you cut up will be a safer option than SS.

Oh, and looking at your FTS, you should try to sell off or trade some of that Hammer and get some other variety corals in there. ;)

I've never seen hinges in aluminum - maybe because I haven't looked though. I figured if it's good enough for a boat it's good enough for the stuff near the tank. Anyway I'll look for aluminim - it's softer and tends to be less strong so that may be a reason why you don't see hinges that way -

but it's the only thing I've managed to keep happy.... I've actually traded off and given some away. Unfortunately just about everything and anything SPS I traded for didn't make it. I have one red monti cap that is doing well (or shows new growth and recovery of some of the STN'd areas), otherwise almost all my SPS are gone - nothing but skeletons and other than the hammer just about all of my LPS are gone too. Maybe the stuff was too far gone by the time I got the lights up and running but the recovery I was hoping for has yet to come. I'm waiting a week or two and I will slowly try adding a frag or 2 and see what happens....

There's a West Marine or Boaters World on 73 just below Church Road that has a decent supply of boat hardware. Like you said the SS is pricey. You could also check out Jamestown Supply's website. They tend to have pretty good prices.

The canopy and stand look great and the lights look like came along nicely. Having three separate channels should allow you to really dial it in.

Thanks Mike - I haven't been in either in quite a while - I'll have to check them out. I suspect what I am looking for is more of a cabinet maker's specialty and not what you would find on a boat. Way back in the day, there was a place in Camden (I think) called M&E Marine - they had lots of stuff - too much I guess and I imagine that's why they're no longer around. But that goes back years - before West Marine was in this area (they used to be E&B) - anyway, it may be an online purchase - I guess I should make sure I'm committed to the heavier doors first though....
