I have a bunch of plastic knitting mesh and was wondering if I rough it up and place it in my sump if it will act like a scrubber and grow algae. Trying to pull some nutrients out.

Hit it with light, some should grow. It might catch detritus though, so you prob need to shake it off time to time.

I did that for my freshwater tank. I made a DIY algae scrubber. Scuffed it put in a small container shined light on it and it green algae great. By the way did you find those local. I need for my white worms.

I was think of clipping it to the side in sump.

The amount of light that hits it will likely determine how efficient it is.

Did that with a tank a few years back. Roughed it up with a fork, put it in sump, and directed a light on it. I was replacing them every 2 weeks or so. Worked well.

Most definitely,, just put in refugee chamber with water flowing in it and it will take,,
I only know about this because I did it by mistake and made my own algae scrubber/collector,, been this way for over 6 months,, only draw back was my cheato died, but don’t need it anymore anyway,,
Give it a try , nothing to lose
