Asterina Stars - I would like some

Hello There,

Not sure how to go about this.. Pay ya, Thank ya, whatever it is worth to you.. I was wondering if anyone in my local area of 07092 could possible give me like 5-10 asterina stars for my tank. All you have to do is suck them up with a turkey baster or large pipet and put them in a cup of your tank water for me.. I will come pick them up. That is it. If anyone is willing it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks again for the offer, looks like I am going to have to take you up on it. Appreciate your help. Hope your not too far away :)

Hi,

I've got quite a few of those guys, too. You're more than welcome to some. :)

I have no idea where you are - I'm in Howell, 07731.

Hey Mynd,

You know there's a good chance you already have some and you just haven't seen them yet. It took about 7 months for me to start seeing them...now I've noticed 5 or 6 already.

I have multitudes as well. I'm in Cape May.
Not sure why you'd want them. The are basically considered a pest by most and can quickly get out of control. They also seem to like zoo's a little too much. Like Subliminal said, in due time they will show up on their own.

I think anyone could pop a few in a baggie and mail them to you in a padded envelope. They're hardy as all get out. I didn't respond earlier (I have some for you too) because you said you were looking for them locally.

Sorry to be aiding and abetting those who are derailing a perfectly good thread, but my 2c on the topic follow:

I figure if someone can't be conciencious enough to list their city for me, I can't be bothered checking their zip code through google. Why should 15 people use google with the person with the want could just type out the city? This is the whole reason behind why we require city (not zip code) in the For Sale posts. :)

Wow, and not one email from NJRC telling me anyone responded. Weird...

I just figured it is easier to put in the zip code cause when you go to get directions for distance it will show you exactly where you need to go. Try putting in something like your address to middletown. It will show 3 different middletowns in New Jersey, hence you then have to ask the person what county. Zip Codes are always the best for distance and location. The Selling area should require ZIPCODES. I should have written Mountainside as well.

I will contact a few of you.. The reason I want them is cause I have a harlequin shrimp in my tank now and I want to make sure I have an abundance of the little critters so the harlequin does not go hungry.

Thanks to all whom responded. I appreciate it.

We have 2 harlequins and you need to make sure to feed them a chocolate chip starfish. They won't survive on asterinas alone. There isn't enough "meat" there. Ours get 1 CC starfish every 2 weeks or so. You can freeze them so 1/2 a CC and freeze the other 1/2 for 2w while the one you have eats what you've put in there.

With ours we know they're hungry when we can see them. They hide otherwise.

Asterina Stars are pest some munch on zoos(bad) and some on algae(good).I am tired of tweezering them of my zoos. When I do A WC I suck as many of them suckers out of my tanks as possible.I am considering a harliquin shrimp to keep them inline !

I think Phyl's given you the best advice so far. Asterina's aren't enough to sustain them. Even in a tank with plague-like numbers, there isn't much there for any harlequin. In the end you'll just wind up with another pest in the tank. CC's are cheap. If you have a sump area to keep the CC you can cut off one leg at a time in stead of freezing it.
