Dan's 150 Rebuild

How long did u wait between coatings? I'm worried I won't be able to have it done in time. We move in 2 weeks and Im only gonna have a day or 2 when I'm off from work

If you use a regular min wax stain it is pretty straight forward. Apply with a brush and let sit for a couple minutes then wipe off with a rag. After 24 hours a stain sealer then finish coat. There are other options as well. Pigmented polyurethanes, spar varnish ( probably what I would use... Was made for wooden spars on wooden ships) but polyurethane would do well also. A sand before staining and after the sanding sealer is key. It removes any excess glue that will keep the stain from taking to the wood and taking down any raised grain after the sealer. Actual work may only be a few hours but there is drying time for the stain. The sealer dries rather quickly.

You can always stain and seal it and finish coat after it is up and running. VOCs are low on poly's and varnish and such so there wouldn't be too much problem.

The thing I like about the stuff I used is that it's an all in one. Stain and poly. No wiping, paint on let it dry steel wool and repeat. I went 24hrs between coats. Stain, 24hrs, very fine steel wool, wipe down with damp cloth, few min later stain again.

Yeah I'll have to get an all in one, definitely won't have time for numerous coats

You will need at least 2. For me the second coat was just enough. 3rd was for good measure. You don't want to put on a heavy coat. Light coats with a good brush.

Slowly awaiting my stand and canopy to get to my dads :) brought over the sump so I could start figuring out how I wanna plumb it. Probably won't do any of that tonight tho, I still have to leak test my sump

Well now that its here, its going to be a little tight to do everything I wanted to do underneath, BUT I'm sure we can make it work.

Now, I have 2 questions.
1. When putting bulkheads on, it should go, bulkhead, gasket, glass, gasket, overflow box, nut right?

And 2. How should I make my drain pipes into the sump? The bulkheads are 2in I.D. should I shrink it or just make em 2in PVC dumping straight down?

I would personally stay with the 2". Also, if you can run them on an angle. It will be much quieter that a straight drop.

well its going to have to be on an angle bc of the way the sump and stand is. I just dont wanna hear the bubbling and dumping sound that i do now with my 90 lol.. would flex PVC on the end of it make any difference?

Just to clarify, the pipe is actually 1 1/2 inch pipe. I used rigid PVC. Make sure you throw in a couple unions in there just in case you need to take it apart.
