Dan's 150 Rebuild

I was fortunate in that I had a rimless tank with 1/2 inch glass. I just picked up vinyl J channel (used on wallboard that comes in contact with any masonry), and then glued the pipe directly to that.....using pipe cement. I also then added epoxy to make sure it stayed.

Would you consider just using epoxy to glue it to the tank frame?

I guess I could do that. I mean its not like I'll have to take it down for anything right? Maybe just super glue the parts that make contact lol

I'd try super-gluing to hold it in place and then mix up some epoxy and really glue it in place. If you look closely at the first tee in my picture you can see that it is smoothed out as the tee meets the j-channel......that's epoxy.

EDIT TO ADD: My favorite epoxy is JB Weld.....you can find it at WalMart for about five clams.

I think some glue on the backside will work perfectly fine and be unnoticeable hopefully :) thanks again guys, I swear I'm smarter than this lol

Okay so moving on now, I need super glue for the top pipe, a piece of wood for the manifold and plastic conduit thingies to secure it in place.

Now you guys mentioned putting wood in between the drain pipe and tank for support. Do I just get random pieces of wood from Lowes or is there something specific that I need?

Not sure if this question was answered either but would it make more sense just to connect the manifold and back return pipe with flex hose instead of hard pipe?

IF NEEDED, you will want to put a spacer between the pipe and the stand so that when you screw on the clamp it doesn't flex or bend the pipe....possibly putting pressure on the glass and breaking it. So if there is a gap between the pipe and stand, you need to "fill" that up. If you lived closer, I could give you scraps of 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, etc, inch pieces of plywood to act as a spacer. If the space isn't that big, you could simply use spacer shims. Use two shims in opposite directions to create a flat piece (if that makes sense.)

That might work, I have a whole bag of shims.. There's probably about a 2 inch gap tho between the tank and the pipe so I may have to go with something else

I'm was planning on having everything controllable from under the tank. Not a fan of reaching behind to turn a valve if I have to lol

Where you have it now, is about 1/2" from where it would be, mounted to the back of the stand as I have it. As you can see the valves are facing the front of the tank and I controlled the valves from inside the stand.

Use the Flex PVC if you can to connect the pump to the manifold.

A bit of advice about using the flex. You can not clamp it to the pump very well. I used a coupler with a barbed fitting and 3" of vinyl tube to join the pump to the flex hose going to the manifold.

Nope. The small amount added to the main tank at a time will do very little to the main tank temp
