Well I was at BRS buying some carbon and GFO. When I looked at the trident and they had some available. I know a lot of people are having a hard time getting reagents but I thought hey why not test this thing for my self. So I purchased a trident.

I was so excited to set it up and get it testing.
When I open the box I was shocked on how cheap this thing is built. The plastic is very cheap and it doesn’t not feel like a $600 product. I was able to set it up and do the installation.

After the trident was setup. I was getting a No water sample error message.

I look online and they have steps for me to trouble shoot my brand new not working product.
I did all the steps and still getting a
No water sample error.
I emailed Neptune and open up a ticket for my brand new apex trident. Now I am waiting to hear back from the help desk.
But I think I should just send it back to BRS and be done with it.

That's really upsetting. Special for the price of it, you'd hope it would be built better

I send it back to BRS. I shouldn’t have to fix problems with a new product. I checked online and a lot of people had the same error. So people fixed the problem by replacing the input line. I didn’t want to bother at that point I was just upset.

That’s disheartening to hear about such an expensive product from a reputable company. Hopefully they fix the issue soon with a newer model.

I think they just rushed this to market. The trident doesn’t feel like a finish product. It feels like a beta. I don’t view Neptune as a reputable company. With the 2016 apex they had a lot of problems and they covered them up. The salinity probe never worked. The ATO was so bad they had to release a different version to fix the problems (Ato2)
The auto feeder was a horrible product. That would dump inconsistent food amounts.
The dos is very loud. The wav pumps have one little plastic clip powering the wave maker that great until it breaks then you have nothing. It’s 2020 and Neptune is using aquabus cables. Every other company is using wi-fi to communicate.
Ecotech and kessil new products are not apex ready.

I was having a similar issue. Make sure your apex is at the latest version, then update the trident. If you update the trident and not the apex first it won’t get the latest software on the trident....

Btw, you can quiet your dos significantly by replacing the roller with units from avast marine. They are identical, but Neptune only gives you two rollers, avast gives you 4.B39982FE-7D2F-498E-A173-66F8695151F4.jpegD28A65CD-6522-4D46-A7D9-19AF9D5DFAB6.jpeg

Thanks I upgraded both. I think my problem was with the actual intake line I think it was clogged.

That’s interesting. The dos is in the fishroom now so i don’t hear it as much. Before the tank was in the family room and it was very loud. I think when the dos dies I will replace it with the ecotech one.

So I finally installed the Neptune dos. I had it setup in my old system just to do water changes. This system is too big for auto water changes. So I will use it to dose 2 part.
I am using esv alk / cal and I will dose magnesium manually if it ever needs it.
I want to keep my alk from 8-8.5.
It’s at 8.6 right now. So I stop dosing and let’s see how much is used in 24hrs.

My salt is Red Sea blue bag
That mixes at
8.2 -8.4 alk
Ph 8.2 - 8.4
Cal 420-440
Mag 1250-1310
Potassium 380 -400

How good are those Hanna testers vs Salifert? Have you ever needed to do anything with Potassium?

I have only used Hanna so I have no idea.
Alk with a Hanna checker is super easy it’s two steps.
Calcium is a little harder but once you do it a few times it get better.

I have never added potassium. Just doing water changes and using Red Sea I have all my trace elements.

ESV 2 part also has calcium and carbonate alkalinity, as well as all other important major, minor, and trace elements in the proper ratios.

I just send out my icp water test for this tank as soon as it comes in I will post it.

The only Salifert test I use is nitrate

So today I got my BOGO order of pods from algae barn. I already added pods from reef cleaner when I got my clean up crew.
So this will be my 2nd pod culture.

I've used the Salifert Potassium Test Kit. It comes up with the same result every time I use it. I think that means that the test just isn't granular enough...
