Just in time too cause I was looking at my diy frag rack and noticed that the mag cleaner I used started to rust DI I had to remake it. Any just thought I'd share. Thanks for looking
John

The magnet are the neo-dynanium coated in black epoxy. I went with the plastic dip for a bit of added protection.

Those are great magnets and a good company to order from. Those are the ones I used to hold my doors on to my 125.Great idea for frags too.

I've been actually thinking about doing something similar to this. I have some monti's that I would like to put on my back glass and this may be the best way to do it.

The epoxy on those magnets is very thin, brittle and chips super easy so they need to be coated in something else to protect them. Another thing you need to consider is that the frag disc is porous so the saltwater will creep through them and into the magnet also causing it to rust over a few month period.

I made a bunch of these a couple years ago but used a crafting epoxy to seal the magnets further. They work great, just be sure they are sealed completely or else they will still rust in the tank.

Which is the reason I put a few coats of plastic dip on them.

The magnets are completely covered in the plastic dip several times, then a small recess is drilled into the frag disk. The recess is filled with superglue gel then in goes the magnet. No water will be getting to these magnets.

Just placed an order for some of them. Does the plasti dip make the magnets loose some of there strength? How thick is your glass your using these on?

The glass I have them on is 3/16". They will lose a bit of strength but in my case not to much. I am currently holding this up two sets of magnets.

That plate measures about 4"x3" and is attached to a 4"x2" piece of acrylic. I also have another piece of acrylic that I mounted 4 frags attached to plugs.
To be honest though when I do it again I will probably go a bit bigger with the magnet.
When you dip them put the plastic dip in a glass or plastic jar. I neglected to do this at first and had to pry a few off the side of the container, and later peel plastic off my hands. Attach the magnet to a nail head and dip half in then give it a few spins to get excess off. Let it dry, then flip magnet and dip, spin, dry, and repeat a few times til your satisfied. Let me know if you have any questions.

And if I may add,the company is really great at answering questions you have on what size magnets would fit yr purpose they ask what you would be using them for as in how many lbs etc...Thanks for sharing this idea,I never even gave thght to when I did this awhile back,I even used mag floats as an alt ernate, but this by far is a better bang for the buck.

Kevin. If you use the plastic dip, make sure you transfer it to a different container. I used a mason jar. The magnet will attach to the metal container no matter how careful you are.

I did the same thing a while back (may even have gotten the idea from this thread, lol.)

I have a few extra mason jars if you need one Kevin. I had to buy a 6-pack because that's all I could find.

Not sure how I'd get it to you though. I know I have to be up near Woodbridge next week (10/16) around 9 am. If you're available, maybe you could meet me somewhere? I'll be heading up the turnpike.

I have a can of the plastic dip if you need it...

Thanks, I actually have a can!

Will do!

I have something that will work! I appreciate the help though!

Well I though I'd update this. I removed some of the magnets today that have been in the water for quite some time. And found this after removing the plasti dip coating

The water still found a way to the inside. There was no rust showing on the outside. Only noticed it after removing the coating. I will be removing the magnets where I can.

John, how many coats did you put on your magnets? I put around 4-5 coats on mine and I wasn't satisfied until it looked really sealed on mine.
