Hello NJRC!

Hello All,
I am new to NJRC and new to the hobby. I wanted to send a heartfelt Thank You to everyone I met at last months meeting, and to all those I will meet at the coming meetings. Everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly, and most importantly, willing to share information.

I started my first reef tank about 7 months ago. It is a 75RR with ~145 lbs of LR. I custom built my sump w/ fuge and have since built a custom standpipe because the last one was too noisy. I have an Apex Controller, MP40w PH and AquaticLife 4xT5 + Lunar LED light fixture which I received from my wife for Christmas. I'm also running an older Red Sea Venturi Skimmer, which seems to do a decent job, and a TLF PhosBan Reactor containing PuriGen.

I am still exploring the world of corals, but I think I have a nice collection so far and they all seem to be very happy and growing:
  • 3x Pulsing Xenia
  • 1x Torch
  • 2x Trumpet (small frags)
  • 1x Colony of ~30 Fire Ring Zoos
  • 1x Unidentified Zoos (~40)
  • 1x Undata Monti
  • 1x Hot Chilli Pepper Monti aka Seasons Greetings Monti
  • 1x Green Slimer
  • 1x Bullseye Mushroom
  • 1x Unidentified LPS

I also have a mated pair of Yellowstripe Maroon Clowns which I picked up for a steal at the LFS.

Over the past few months I have been at war with unwanted algae. I seem to be getting it all under control, but it has been tedious to say the least. If nothing else, I have learned the art of patience.

Since I started the tank, I think I have spent more time reading books, forum posts and random websites regarding reef tanks than I have done regarding my own profession. The best part is, I enjoy nearly every second of it.

If anyone interested, I can post some pics of my tank this weekend.

That's all for now. I look forward to being an active part of the community and to return all the favors people have done for me thus far.

Best,
Tim

Welcome to NJRC!!

Of course we want to see pics! Pics are always welcome. We especially want to see the unidentified LPS to get you an ID on it. I am very jealous of you having a mated pair of gold banded maroons. I have one that is a couple years old and regret not getting it a mate.

Thanks everyone. I will post some pics later tonight, especially of the unidentified SPS. I typoed it in the list above... oops.

Welcome Tim! We actually met at the meeting at Eric’s house.

I WANT TO SEE PICTURES!

Post your tank pictures in “Tale of the Tank,” and get that unknown sps picture posted up in the “SPS & LPS” forum. I'm sure someone on here can help you identify the unknown.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I wasn't able to get the pictures uploaded yesterday, but hopefully will be able to find the time to do it tonight. I also left one of my corals out of the original list, my sincere apologies coral. I also have a nice piece of Orange Cap.

Once I upload the pictures, I will post them to the appropriate forum and post a link here.

Thanks Again,
Tim
