Hello All,
I am new to NJRC and new to the hobby. I wanted to send a heartfelt Thank You to everyone I met at last months meeting, and to all those I will meet at the coming meetings. Everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly, and most importantly, willing to share information.
I started my first reef tank about 7 months ago. It is a 75RR with ~145 lbs of LR. I custom built my sump w/ fuge and have since built a custom standpipe because the last one was too noisy. I have an Apex Controller, MP40w PH and AquaticLife 4xT5 + Lunar LED light fixture which I received from my wife for Christmas. I'm also running an older Red Sea Venturi Skimmer, which seems to do a decent job, and a TLF PhosBan Reactor containing PuriGen.
I am still exploring the world of corals, but I think I have a nice collection so far and they all seem to be very happy and growing:
I also have a mated pair of Yellowstripe Maroon Clowns which I picked up for a steal at the LFS.
Over the past few months I have been at war with unwanted algae. I seem to be getting it all under control, but it has been tedious to say the least. If nothing else, I have learned the art of patience.
Since I started the tank, I think I have spent more time reading books, forum posts and random websites regarding reef tanks than I have done regarding my own profession. The best part is, I enjoy nearly every second of it.
If anyone interested, I can post some pics of my tank this weekend.
That's all for now. I look forward to being an active part of the community and to return all the favors people have done for me thus far.
Best,
Tim
