Here's my Big Office System

Re: Here's my 120

Thanks all!

The new tank will go where the 120 now stands in my office.

The 120, I don't know what will come of that. Not to the house. Maybe a FOWLR in the office???

I'll probablly end up with a 75 or smaller at home as, I'll have my hands full with this beast.

The tank is previously owned. I'll be the third owner, all I know is it was a custom build 3/4" glass, not starfire, center over flow, no CLs drilled, blue back, two center braces. I really wanted a 36" deep tank, but I could never do 8'at home, NO WAY! Now, with some effort, I can have the fish I want and keep SPS corals and let themm grow out! It was just too good an oportunity to pass on.

you know its funny.. I said the same thing as we both read your for sale post not long ago :) hmm... If only i could talk her into a bigger tank upstairs

Re: Here's my 120

Today I was returning from a meeting in King of Prussia so I stopped at Hidden Reef. All I can say is WOW! that place is HUGE! Great prices on fish too, I could have filled the 375 if it was up and running! ;) And they have absolutely everything in stock I checked out a bunch of equipment that I've only seen in pictures on line, the proverbial kid in a candy store!

So yesterday before leaving for KOP, I cleaned the 150g rubbermade tub so I can transport the live rock while it is wet. Tomorrow I have to track down some lumber, foam and shrink wrap to protect the tank and stand in transport and Friday is the BIG day! :D

Re: Here's my 120

Here's the 375 at the current owner's house. This is before the tank was refinished when he was just setting up I guess? The stand is now a solid off-white with new hardware. It could be pink for all I care this is my dream tank! :p

That's sweet Bax. Congrats. I can't wait to see it up and running at your meeting!

Re: Here's my 120

Thanks John

I hope it is complete by then, there's lots to do before it can be set up. Just picked it up today it IS a used tank, built like an armored tank! With 3/4" glass it weihgs a ton! Very hard to move.

I have a 150 g rubbermaid tub that is over full of LR that needs to be sorted through.

The stand and canopy need a little tune up and I have to silocone in some new cross braces as there are two cracked braces from hot MH lamps being set on them. Then clean it well.

Then, I have to move the 120 to hold the fish, and a frg to hold the corals

Completely re-work the sump room & plumbing.

... and and and! :p

Re: Here's my 120

Man Baxter, that is some tank! 3/4" glass? Sheesh. Time to get out the vinegar and paint scraper I guess.
Hey if you need any help (that doesn't involve any heavy lifting), just ask. I have a van, extra pumps, clean garbage cans, etc.

Re: Here's my 120

Thanks Jim

Still trying to get my bearings on the over all project. Got the rock into my 150g tub and almost covered with water today before I ran out of RODI to mix SW with.

Got the stand and all the extra stuff off the truck. Monday we'll bring the tank in, it is still strapped to the trailer we just ran out of time yesterday.
The I can start cleaning the tank and assessing the tank & stand and exactly what needs to be done to get her ready!

The tank at pick up with canopy off

On the truck, that's a 16' trailer, all wrapped up and ready for the road, NOT an easy task!

Got Rock!

This is a 4x5' sheet of plywood!

P1310470.jpg

More big ones, 50 pounds+ each! The long one is over 36"!!!

P1310469.jpg

Small shelf dinner plate size and smaller, that's a 30g tub!
P1310471.jpg

And for good measure the basic 10ish in pieces of rock in a 33g brute

I finally got all the rock in the tub and under water. My ASM G4 skimmer is going nuts! It was blowing foam out of the cap's vent holes in about a minute from tuning it on!!!

Re: Here's my 120

AHHHHH smart idea with the Specialty suction cups! haha wish we had those! You keep posting pics of that tub i'm gunna have to buy one and figure out what to do with it later :)

Re: Here's my 120

Those were the cheapy cups, and they did slip on this tank. BUT! I am guessing this tank weighs 1200 pounds ... no lie!

So on smaller tanks they'd have worked well.

Your tank was a piece'o cake to move in comparison! ;D

Wow a 1200 pound tank. You must have alot of friends to move that thing. It looks great. Can't wait to see it up and running.

Re: Here's my 120

Pardon me Edward, I was too busy singing saprano to hear what you said.

It took six guys to lower it off the stand onto some dollies to roll it to the deck from the house. And that was ALL we could do with it weight wise was lower it.

We then got a seventh guy a neighbor, who was a stout dude thankfully! We lowered it step by step off the deck with me, my worker (big dude in black shirt) the neighbor and the PO (also a huge dude) holding the downward end step by step.

We then rolled it on 2" CPVC pipes and plywood sheets around the house to the trailer. Not quite as easy as it sounds. And finally the real gut check was using the ramps of the trailer and the 2" pipes and rolling it up on to the deck and into its final resting place for the trip.

We ran out of time Friday so now, in about ten minutes, we get to unload it and bring it into the shop so I can start cleaning it!

.. Fortunately I have a fork lift here, but this will still be a gut check and that last test of fate. Once I get this baby safely resting on some pallets in the shop Im home free! Then I'll feel like I can call it mine! ;D
