Here's my Big Office System

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax

Before I can wash out the 100 g I had to cut out the poorly designed overflow.

It was 6" wide, barely, with no teeth on the sides, only the front of the overflow. The teeth that are cut are as wide as dimes. The top of the overflow is less that 1/4" from the bracing. Impossible to work with!

P4061544.jpg

There was this access port mid way up the overflow, but it was still limitting.
P4061546.jpg

The overflow cut away! I still have to trim some rough edges of the cut and flame polish.
P4061543.jpg

Then I 'll clean and water test the bulk heads and start plumbing!!!! :D

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax

Been playing with pluming. With three displays, the fuge, cryptic rock tub, manifold to feed reactors and such, an RSDB, return sump and chiller there's lots to be connected here.

SO! Here's lots of fittings ;D
manifoldfittings.jpg

Here's the manifold that'll service the reactors ::)

Here's my swing at a drain on the 100, remember, I chopped out the tiny unserviceable overflow box. I have a plan to use a slotted pipe as an overflow that'll feed this double vented drain. We'll see how it works! ???
drainfro100.jpg

There are also two 1" bulk heads in the bottom of the 100. I'm going to use these as a CL for this tank to keep it clean under the rocks.

And some eye candy. I've been buying some frags here and there. This from OGII is still looking good and starting to grow.
OGIIunknown041710.jpg

This is one of the frags of ORA tort I saved from the crashing colony. What a shame that colony is gone, but I have a couple of nice pieces going.
ORAtort041710.jpg

My Shaun Bennett tort that I did not frag completely is coming back as well! So I may still have a colony! ;D

I also picked up a frag or three from R2R. I had to toss out a rather pricey deepwater frag from there as it was loaded with AEFWs. :-[ You must dip EVERYTHING and QT if you can!

I've been passing by Red Sand on the way home from a job site in Sea Bright. SO, I got a few nice frags. I have to take some pics of the pieces I've picked up from Feng they are really sweet! I like his shop and I like Feng, really nice guy.

If I can lust get this pluming done, we'll be water testing soon!!! 8)

wow amazing polyp extension.

Bax - are you running MH/T5 or just all T5?

are you still using the BW Kalk 2 and NeoMag chunks? Thanks,

I don't think I've ever had more consistant PE then I have been enjoying in this holding tank. It' funny, as it's a PITA to actually enjoy it since there is no place to sit and look at the tanks... yet ;)

The main holding tank is running MH only 2x 400 w 12K Reeflux SEs. I've always been a MH/T-5 combo guy, but these bulbs are providing the color so I'm sticking with it over the new 100g set up. I may still add T-5's to run when the MH are off just for a longer light cycle with a little less heat.

ATM my reactors are off line. I had a snafu with ordering Ca media, and it is now in, but I broke a fitting trying to hurry a restart it. I made a new fitting, but I haven't had a chance to restart the reactor. And my mix timer is out on my Kalk mixer so the RO just flows through it without any mixing. But yes, I would run Kalk 2 (Just a couple of table spoons to a cup or so of TLF Kalkwasser mix) and the Neo Mag at the top of the second chamber on the Ca Reactor ... if it were running ;)

In the mean time I've been manually dosing Turbo Ca, BW Reef Builder, BW Mag, BW Potassium, and a dash of Iodine daily, along with BW 8.3 for Alk stability.

The daily dosing is easy, but I can't wait to get my reactors back on line! ::)

Looking great Bax!

Nice manifold. I am pretty happy with mine, it's a very handy part of any big reef. I'm getting ready to sacrifice the last open port to a refugium, although I'm going to put a quick release on it so I can still use it for emergency draining, water changes and such.

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax

Some of your corals don't look too happy  I'll be more than happy to babysit them indefinitely :). JKJK

Bax hopefully one day soon I can take the ride up and see your setup, read through all the pages and can't believe how amazing everything is looking so far!

Wait till you see the drain line! ;D

Maybe when there's water flowing through out the system, I'll crank up the Barby, chill some brews and open up the office to reef visitors, but you're welcome any time! :D

I'll see if I can make a visit next week before MDW or after if not then.

Did you DIY the stand yourself or older stand refinished? I'm looking at either purchasing a stand or thinking of going the DIY route, but a bit nervous about setting almost a ton on something I built.

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax

I built the stand for the fuge/sump, the 100 g and will build the one for the 40 B as well.

Three words of advice on stand building ... "Pocket Hole Jig"

Especially if you're not a woodworker.

I'm working long hours on a job in Sea Bright for the next week but it should ease up next Wednesday or so.

A short detour off exit 127N on the GSP will get you a beer and a tour of my algae farm! ;)

As soon as I get this job under my thumb, I'll do that. :)

wow that sounds so intimidating. You need to youtube video your daily routine so others can copy it! ;D

If you think the dosing might go on for longer you can substitue BW Elemental for most of what you are dosing. You get calcium, magnesium, stronitum and potassium in one dose. Save you some time and money.

Phil

Once I get the new tanks runninf, there will be pics!

mnat

I hope to have the reactors back on line very soon.

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax

BTW mnat, ELEMENTAL and Reef Builder are one in the same. I still feel you need to dial in some addatives for your reef.
