Last year, around august, there was an intentional alk spike, to see if corals would grow faster. The result was not good. I had to cut most them down to the base in an attempt to save them. These encrusted bases have grown back. The most stubborn one, a deep water fantasia efflo (last pic) finally starting to take off.

Nice comeback Joe. What did you run the alk up to.....and aren't you pretty much low nutrient?

Lesson learned here. Alk was increased from 7 to 9 over two weeks. Lots of ppl run their tank @10+ so I thought no big deal. Within days alk intake shot up the burned tips. I had BP at the time I must had absolutely zero nitrate. I didn't know I had to dose nitrate and obviously feeding a lot was not enough.

In a separate instance I must had absolutely zero phosphate, also with pretty heavy feeding. SPS were all paled but came back after the problem was.

I always make sure there is detectable nitrate and phosphate now.

Thanks folks. Keeping it steady.

I use MH on my frag tank. One month in the experimental SPS frags are not doing well. No PE when the light is on. Bubble tip still love it though, almost 50% bigger. The DT pictured has T5 hybrid.
