How to Keep Your Aquarium Cool in the summer months

As was said, you would be better off with a fan! This thing will not work...concept even states this.

If you are insistent on using a refrigerator, here is my suggested DIY:

1. Buy a mini frig and a window air conditioner. Room air conditioners can be purchased for less than the mini frig.
2. Plug in the frig close to the tank and fill with Yuengling lager.
3. Wait a day.
4. Crack open one of those lagers and slowly start to install the air conditioner in the window. This step should be done slowly to allow the consumption of at least four to five beers.
5. As you are popping the sixth beer, turn on the air conditioner and sit back and enjoy the cooling air and the cold beer while watching the tank.
6. Now that is the way to keep your tank cool using a mini refrigerator that will actually work.

One problem with this: What happens if you run out of beer before you get the air conditioner in the window? Also, is it ok to substitute step 2 with Yuengling lager light?

Just found a nice looking fan if you need one on the DT http://www.buy.com/prod/clip-stik-desk-fan-2-speed/q/listingid/4062147/loc/66357/204758130.html

Ive been keeping the room a/c on 76 and energy save mode for most of the day, and I see temps around 80.5. Im thinking about plugging it into a timer to turn on around 2 or 3 when it starts to really get hot in my living room.

Hey John what temp do you like your tank at? AC set at 76 and tank being 80.5 with ac on seems like you don't have the AC on long enough also a fan over the tank would bring it down a few degrees too.. My tank room gets in the high 80's i set my AC to 80 and with a fan over my tank stays around 78- 79

Sid I like mine at around 79 or so. My living room has gotten up to about 94 on the most recent burning hot day, tank hit 84 then. I also have a vornado over the sump, maybe Ill move it to the display. The tank is also in direct flow with the ac, the cold air is constantly blowing over it. I dont mind the temp at 80.5, trying to keep the energy bill down a little. Since the gf "had to have" a 10000 btu ac in the bedroom that she keep on 65 all night, I try to watch my consumption a little.

65  and i thought my wife was bad when she sets it to 72-75.. I keep telling her 79 is just fine but she don't want to hear it or understands ::).. I just hate waste like that

I know, Im "cheap" and she boos when I turn it to 72. With 91 predicted for Monday I may need to ready that timer and set it up for AC use.

Thought I was bad with AC at 69/70. This year will try for 75 and move it down to 72. Hopefully, the bosses won't complain. That is wife and son. ;D

That's not being cheap that's not wasting.. big difference

Tell her that. She also loves to run the water while brushing her teeth, I usually come in from any other room and shut it off, which results in a fight haha. I mean I cant really say anything since I waste about 75 gallons of water a week making rodi water change and top off. I hate being wasteful as well, anything that just gets disposed in the garbage weighs heavily on my conscious. Does anyone rebuild fans? One of ours just stopped turning, you can hear the motors on but it wont spin. Probably needs the armature rebuilt, but who the hell does that anymore? I refuse to just throw out a year old fan, so its in the attic for now....I bet Olivier can fix that thing for me....hmmmmm...

Google best AC temps.. all say set AC to 78 - 80 degrees and show her this http://michaelbluejay.com/electricity/cooling.html

I forgot to add that site don't say what way the ceiling fan should run.. In the summer have the fan pulling up.. you don't want hot air blowing down on you and it also draws the cold air up.. other way around for winter :)

Wow, nice link Sid, Im full of eco friendly facts about cutting our bill thanks! lol. Ill have to lay down the law later on. Its getting warm already, might be a 78 degree ac day! I noticed that about the direction of the fan, opposite of what Ive thought this whole time. Figured youd want it blowing on you when hot, and pulling cold air up when cold.
