Hurricane Irene

Honestly...I think everyone is going a bit crazy with this!! Hurricanes hit other areas all the time and they survive!! People even ride out the storms. I think the problem is that NJ hasn't been hit with a serious hurricane in so long that they forgot what to do. And not to mention all the new houses along the Jersey Shore, like all the condos in Wildwood....I doubt they were built with hurricanes in mind.

People need to relax and chill out. If you aren't going to have power for a few days....keep driving west until the power is on (of course this doesn't count for us reefers lol). The media has turned this into a mass panic!!

We got through the earthquake and we will get through this:D

The PH are Koriala 4. I have two; one on each end so not sure what I can cover it with.

Mark - just plug in the standard air bubbler you probably have for FW tank. The air bubbler will keep the water fairly oxygenated. even better if you have the $10 airbubbler powered by D batteries. Amazon has them but i think it's too late to order them. But honestly your fish should not be caught by a pump unless they are already on their way out.

Oooo - i am on page 8!!!

I was at homedepot in springfield this morning and there were about 75 people waiting in line for a shipment of generators. I was just there to buy rope to tie things down. The cashier was funny, she said they already sold about 200 generators and thank goodness, she isn't working on Monday, b/c there will probably be 200 generator returns. I hope she is right.

That is funny. You may want to tie down the mini cooper too....hahaha (just joking).

We have our megshift generator set up. We picked up a 400 watt inverter. Filled our riding lawnmower up with gas and extra gas can filled. We hooked up the inverter to the Mower battery let the mower run on idle. It powers up our return pump in the basement. We probably could power up our Led actinic light too but as long as we have good circulation the light we can do without unless the outage is longer then expected. Good Luck everyone and Safe!!

I stopped at TB and picked up two battery backups for my MP40s. I hope they are enough if we loss power. It says 36 hours on the box.

I picked up one from aquarium center today for my single mp40. I hope I never need it but I'm glad I have it.

I'm making extra rodi water and extra saltwater just in case. May even put some saltwater in the freezer in case the tank temp gets too high. I figured a small water change with cold/frozen water might be good in case of emergency.

I am more inland than most of you guys I guess. Looked for a generator all over today before reading this thread. No luck anywhere. May look for an inverter tomorrow. I have a battery backup on my return pump, (Ehiem 1262), but no idea how long it will last (it is a profesional computer grade for businesses). If I can't get one sooner, maybe I can get one at half price next week when the masses return theres (hopefully).

Just got back from a cruise to Bermuda yesterday to this whole hurricane situation, so no real time to prepare. (I knew I should have prepared better and bought a generator awhile ago)

Actually that would be worse for the tank as it will cause temperature swings making the tank more unstable leading to more stress on the livestock.
