Jgraz's Finally a Proper Tank 90 Upgrade

Nice move by doing your build. I envy you for that!

I recall spending substantial time deciding between the Mag 9.5 and Eheim 1262. I have a 75G and 35 Gall frag tank. I decided to go with the Mag 9.5 primarily because of the cost and regretted it after going through too many replacements because of broken repellers. I also did not like the loss of flow reported on the Eheim with over 4ft of head. I also use a SCWD on my set up which contributes to the additional need for more pushing power. If I could do it over now, I would go with the Eheim for very good reliability and I would simply make up for the loss of flow with extra strength on the powerheads, so I'd say your on the right track there if you plan on counting on powerheads more.

I don't know the Sicce line yet, but will take a close look at them. I know the Ehiem1262 costs over $150. How much does the syncra 3.5 or 4 cost and where do you prefer to get them? Thx

I've only seen the sicce pumps online so far. I had a sicce 1.5 that I used in a nano and liked it very much. As far as cost them seem to be I between the eheim's and mag's. I also went with a different pump mainly cause of cost also. I am currently using a Deep Blue Triton 4. So far I like it. And as for cost, it was under $60. So I figured I'd give it a shot.

Bob, I run Syncra pumps on both of my tanks. I have a 3.0, 3.5, and 5.0 and I love them. They are great pumps and if you want to know more about them, PM me or we can start a new thread so we don't hijack this one.

Tank is looking great!! Glad everything made the transition. Watch out for the wrasse. Mine can be an *** sometimes!

Thx Kevin, the wrasse has been great so far, at least with fish. But I have noticed a few extra empty shells around the sandbed. Any snail that falls is done for. I also noticed a familiar sight at NJ reef farm yesterday.

Went to AO today for the anniversary sale. New additions, tiny maxima bad pic though

Yellow tang. Currently in my Qt/frag tank. The tank is only 20h so I just keep an eye on him for a couple of weeks so I can get him into the bigger tank.

I wanted so much more but I'm trying to at least keep a bit for the swap.

Hey John couple questions about your sump first are your baffles 1" apart in the first section
Then is all your glass the same Height and did you just move the second baffle up a couple inches up
And I think that's it going to copy everything you did it looks like its working great for you
And it was 17"3/8 inside right thanks in advance John

Dan, yes all 1" between the baffles.
The four baffles are 10", 11", 12", & 13". From left to right is 12", 13" raised 1" off of bottom, 11" then the 10" before the return. The other measurement is 17 3/8". But def measure the inside of your tank just to confirm, just in case there is any discrepancy between them, and to double check me. Lol
When I shut down the pump I still have almost 4" plus of room left after drain down from the DT. So there is plenty of room for making sections deeper. Let me know if you need anything else.

Just thought I would add a few tank shots since its been a while. I have also been considering starting bio pellets soon. Just have to decide on a reactor. Im currently between the Reef Octopus and the JNS reactors. For the media I'm leaning towards Eco-Bak. Almost everything is doing well. I have added 3 bangaii's about 4 days ago. They were all doing well but today I noticed that 1 got pretty beat up. The right side of the fish looks bad. He is swimming fine but the eye and gill area clearly took a beating. Im pretty sure the culprit is the yellow tang. Only problem is there is no way im getting it out. So hopefully he heals up. I borrowed my Brother in laws camera and figured I could get some nice pics but That thing have too much going on. I think I'll stick with my i-Phone. Anyway here are the tank shots.

The stunner is in your tank.
As for the frogspawn, I got it that way. About half of the heads are a mix of purple and green. Usually new growth is all green though.

awesome tank John!! your 90 inspired me to get my 90 up to speed!! love the sump design, might go with the same design when I make or redo my current one.

Been a while since I updated so here goes. Santa brought me a reef octopus bio reactor, a pair of BRS dosing pumps and a new set of T5 bulbs. The bulbs are getting switched already but the other have to wait till I build a cabinet for next to the stand where I will house all the equipment. I also purchased a rio HF32 pump to run everthing. Here are some updated shots, all with an iPhone so not the greatest
