You got the vortech, nice. Is that the LED unit or is that a T5 fixture.

Ugh. I just did that too. The incessant drip, drip, drip.......

Looks like a nice little set up!

Hidden Reef had a nice coupon towards the end of the year so I broke and got the MP-10. As for lights, im gonna go with T5's. I got a good deal on a brand new Deep Blue Solar Extreme quad. So im gonna give it a go. That LED is just too much for this tank. This is going to be in my family room so I would like to keep the light in the tank.

I just broke about an hr ago. I just could not stand it anymore. I had about 25gal of water ready since I usually buy so I used it. Need a few more gal though. I did however find a tiny leak at the elbow coming out of the return bulhead, so I'll work on that tomorrow. Otherwise everything looks good.

Looks great graz. What are you going to do for substrate, BB, DSB, etc.? I'm a proponent of a DSB, but given the size of your tank and the VorTech, it might be better to go BB in the DT and add a DSB to the fuge.

As for the DT I'm gonna go with just enough black substrate to cover. I have a lot in my frag tank right now and figure I'll save a bit of money. It is kind of a crushed coral type but quite live as we speak. As for the fuge I'm not really sure yet. The fuge section is only 7"x7.5"x10" so a DSB might not be worth it, right? Not really sure what you need as far as space for one. I was also think just macro only, or Mabye even using the space to employ my reactors when I get them. I was thinking of starting the system with bio-pellets, which would effectively reduce the need for a traditional fuge, correct? Thoughts anyone?

Well here we go. Filled and leak checked. Everything good.

Gonna work on scape tomorrow then salt and seeded sand/rock.
In the last post I mentioned a few things about my fuge ideas, does anyone have any thoughts on any of that?
Anyway thanks for looking.

I would still do a little fuge. It's still a good place for pods and such to reproduce. It's always a good food source for the fish and even some corals. You don't necessarily need a DSB though I don't think it would hurt. A few pieces of LR rubble, some macro and you should be good.

Well the plumbing is done. Hopefully, I get some pics up soon. Made a few changes from suggestions in the "plumbing assist" threat I had. We will see how it goes. The can of glue for the PVC says 2 hr curing time. Does that mean I can add water after that?

I’ve done work with a mechanical contractor (a degreed “plumber”), and he would pressurize newly assembled lines within minutes of the last glue-up. This would especially be true within our low-pressure systems with our tanks. You should be good to go minutes after gluing up that last pipe.

Also on a side note, the nem that I bought from Xavier a few weeks ago split. I now have 2 GBTA, one is about 1" the other 1.5" I did not know they would split that small. Anyway I get some pics ASAP.

I’m willing to bet you have a Cribrinopsis crassa, a small anemone from the Mediterranean, that looks like a mini GBTA. They are a nice looking little anemone, but they will divide like rabbits, and will take over your tank. See my Tale of the Tank, last post on page 4 (post #40).

Well we'll see about the nems. I looked them up. I don't know tough call. Not really sure what im gonna do with them yet anyway. Thanks for the tip though. I'll keep and eye on them. Though it tough they are constantly in a different spot every day.

Well cycle underway. I added some live rock and the filter pad from my frag tank and the sand im using is also from my frag tank. Only going with a thin covering for the substrate. basically just enough to cover. So much for all that rock work I did eariler, as soon as I took it apart I could not figure it out again, even with pics. Anyway this is what me and my wife came up with. Lots of place to put things.

Question: Since im using well seeded items from my other tank should I still add an ammonia source?
Well tanks for looking.
John

Yea add some pure ammo just to 2ppm to make sure you've got enough bb in there. You'd be able to start off with more livestock straight away and also you'd be sure not to cause a mini cycle later :) but that's just mho

Sent from my DROIDX

Not really sure where to get the ammonia. If this is anything like my last setup with live rock I might not see much of a cycle. I think I got some shrimp in the freezer. Might go that route.

You'll probably be fine TBH. but Im a measure twice cut once kinda guy so I personally would do it just to be sure :). the ammonia you can get from Ace hardware. the ace hardware janitorial strength stuff. the smallest bottle they have is like 300-500 ML & you'll use literally 5-10 ML total per tank. it's like $2.50 so not a big deal if you have one close/on your way home from work & you'll have it for ay other tank you start :)

Well its been a bit since I updated, so here we go. The tank is up and going. Mostly stocked, though I may get 2 more fish not sure what though one will be a clown to replace the one I lost. The other is up for debate, so im taking any and all suggestions, so fire away. Anyway the inhabitants are a Snocasso, Yellow Clown Goby, Blood Shrimp, Sexy Shrimp, and the usual CUC. I added a couple of Snocasso's a couple of weeks ago and right away one was not doing so well. He hung in there for about a week or so, then gone. Not sure what was happening. I saw him eat and he seemed very happy at the store, but I guess these things happen. So im on the hunt for a mate for my other one. Coral has been getting added often. I need more(please someone have a sale). Sump is running good, though I need to find a way to keep stray cheato out of the display. Skimmer is awesome. I just added a CPR Nano Reactor that I am running a bag of Chemi-Pure in, but I may just change that to GFO/GAC when needed. I was also tinkering with the idea of running pellets in it, but I may not be able to get output to the skimmer and have read that, that is a must. Anyway enough rambling. Here are the pics. Thanks for looking
Also don't forget the ideas for my last inhabitant

Well I just wanted to do a quick review of the CPR Nano Reactor that I decided to run, in case anyone with a nano setup was interested. I was looking for something small that I could run GFO/GAC if needed. I came across this
http://************.com/2011/09/09/nano-mini-reactors-cpr/
It the on on the left. It is currently housed in my fuge section and running with bag of Chemi-Pure Elite. The contents of the bag have remain fluidized at least for the last few days. Not sure if it will remain that way as the bag becomes clogged, so that remains to be seen. It came with a RIO 90 pump and seems to be powered perfectly for this unit. It has the ability like most pumps to adjust flow. The water flows out of the top of unit and falls back into the fuge. I was concerned that that would be a bit noisy, but I really can't hear it even with the stand door open. I may change to GFO in the future and possibly GAC if/when I need it. I was considering pellets, but have read that flow should be diverted to skimmer and that is gonna be tough in my setup. All in all it seems well made and takes up little room. Unfortunatly I can't get a good pic because of it location in my sump. I'll see what i can do later for that. I think it is perfect for those with small spaces and wanting to run a reactor. It can also be put in the DT, but that would probably be an eyesore even with the black cover the sell for it. Here is a pic of it in pieces If anyone has any questions about it let me know. There are also some vid on you tube of it running. Thanks for looking

The last week or so I have spent pretty much all extra money on some new coral. I just wanted to update my new finds. My pic skills suck. Part of it is that im working with only an iPhone, the other part is....well its me, I just can't take a pic. Here goes.

Very nicE making me want to set up the 40 breeder I got stat. But I ain't got the money to set it up properly. Just a word of caution with that light. I was researching them cause I wanted to get one for my 40 breeder Anne found a lot of then would burn out quickly. And it was just mostly the 4 bulb HO ones that did that so metro warranty info close. But hopefully it was something they fixed so by the time I get set up I might still get one.
