For starters I sold it. I really was too much light for this tank. Pretty much lit up the whole room. Ive only been using the DB for a few weeks basically when this tank went up.
O so you got the regular T5 light not the high output T5? I heard the problem was with just the high output ones. Damn it my next question wad gonna be if I could buy the LED light from you :-\
We ran a 4 bulb fixture over our 20h for a long time, we eventually found a 5 bulb fixture that we still use. With the 4 bulb you will be able to keep everything, just have to place the corals accordingly and pick some great bulbs.
So far everything looks good with the fixture. I'm running all ATI bulbs. 2x blue plus, purple plus, & coral plus. It would figure though that just a few weeks after getting this fixture someone here is selling a 5 bulb aquactinics and someone on manhatten reefs has a Tek 4 bulb. Just my luck. Both are very tempting at those prices. But I gotta resist.
Just wanted to give a little update. Things were going well for a bit, then some problems struck.
First: I decided to add a bag of PhosGuard. Boy was that a mistake. I guess it pulled too much, too quick and I lost a few acros to RTN. There one night gone the next. Pulled the bag and since that has been fine.
Second: I started to notice that a frag of ORA Jeremys Monti that was doing very well did not have any PE. Afew days go by and I wake up one morning and find that it was completly eaten away. Upon closer inspection I find that there was Monti Eating Nudi's on it. Well I tossed that and inthe process I also lost a small Frag of Superman Monti, and Grinch monti. All gone. I pulled all the montis not glued down and dipped for a few days in a row and upon inspection I only noticed one more nudi on a purple cap. I have not seen any in the past couple of weeks so hopefully that was taken care of. I also did not find any eggs. My J.F. Setosa which usually has good PE has not shown any for the last week or so, and my Superman Digi is in the same boat. Both are epoxyed to the rocks they get inspected 2-3 times a day and with the exception of no PE they seem healthy with great color.
Third: I posted this on another thread also. But did it here just have a record in my build thread. I noticed this.....Algae?(see pics) Showing up only on one side of my tank and more or less near the bottom. Yesterday I also noticed that the sun was shining through my skylights right onto the area. It is smooth to the touch, not slimey, and does not come off the rock easily when brushed or blown off. Definatly not diatoms or Dino's. Though I have not yet ruled out Cyano. And it does not have any flow to if that makes sense. The flow in that area of the tank is good, as it should be, I have a MP-10 in a 20H, set to reef-crest. The pump maxes out almost all the way during its high point. Any help on the ID would be great. Someone in another forum mentioned the possbility of it being sponges.
My Parameters are: Ammonia/Nitrites/Nitrates=0
Phosphates=.04 Hanna checker- I expect this is masked by the algea
Calcium=440
Alkalinity=8(at lights out)
PH=8.2(at lights out)
Here are the pics
Looks like cyano, we got it when we got some direct sunlight and temp issues. Having no flow there will always make it a problem algae spot as detritus will settle there. If you can't fix it with a powerhead, blast it with a turkey baster to clean it up. Siphon as much out as you can and keep an eye on it.
Mike,
There is good flow there. I meant to say the algae has no "flow" it doesn't move just kind of on the rock. I tried to blow it off with the baster and a brush and no go, it has to be scraped off. It just does not have the same feel and ease of removal as cyano would. Im gonna try to cut feedings some and see how it goes. Its not really an eyesore, I only noticed it while looking really close trying to find my PomPom.
Well I made a change yesterday. I replaced my black substrate with Fiji Pink sand, in preparation for a incoming pistol/goby pair. Change went well except somehow my JF setosa got crushed. Now instead of one nice mini colony I have a bunch of tiny frags. Other then that it seems that my emerald is missing as well a few snails and hermits. I did find the Pom Pom crab that pretty much hides all the time.
Here's a new FTS
Thanks to everyone who assisted me in the change.
