Kids got the itch back...

thinking it would be better to add a piece of raw shrimp or two to the tank once it clears. I feel bad just throwing a clown in there. Plus they are like 20 bucks a pop. Id rather do the shrimp, get myself a testing kit and take it from there. I should have my lights hopefully by the weekend...thoughts welcome.

I agree with using the shrimp. No need to put a fish through any undue stress or even worth death when there are other methods.

cant believe thats even an option to some people...disgusting. ill be in search of raw shrimp tomorrow at work...luckily i work im a place that has a deli. ill def be updating soon. thanks guys. filter/powerhead still running and i hope when i get up tomorow it will be almost clear.

Okay, but the preservatives in it won't matter? Ill be putting it in the freezer again...as I am not going straight home after work today. I was going to grab two before I leave and throw em in when I get home tonight. Hopefully the tank is clear and I can add the one and only as well. Should the filter still be on when I add it?

I wouldn't be worried about a frozen shrimp. Many of the commercially made frozen food we use in our tanks contain preservatives. 1 should be plenty for your tank. I would leave the filter on. Has the tank cleared up for you?

Okay than ks. The tank looked better this morning before I left. Went to squueze out the sponges and it went back to heing a little more cloudy. Ill look at it tonight...even if its not clear I can just keep the shrimp in the freezer until the tank is ready. Ill be posting a pic of the tank tonight. Considering putting the carbon in if its not considerably better tonight. ill be back on tonight. ..thanks guys.

So its still a little cloudy...I'm thinking by tomorrow night I should be ready to dump the shrimp and the bacteria in. I also get my lights tomorrow!! Again I went with the AquaticLife T5HO 4 bulb 20 inch fixture. Very excited about installing it tomorrow and posting pics. Heres what the tank looks like tonight.20130905_222624-842852388.jpg

Iv ised dr tims and microbactor 7 to cycle both my tanks. Works great. I used pure ammonia that you get when you order directly from his site. Just remeber to test. Dont be in a hurry to add fish. Make sure your cycle is complete. That's why I like to use pure ammonia. When you think the tank is cycled you can dose the ammonia to a few ppm and then see how quickly its turned to nitrates.

Tank looked great this morning when I was leaving. Like I said my lights are coming tonight and then ill post some pics. Def going to do the bacteria and shrimp tonight. Getting testing kit this weekend. Not in a rush to add anything at all...just want stability before anything in such a small tank.

20130906_213951-842852388.jpg If you look close you can see one of the shrimp on the bottom. I don't even have the powerhead running bc the filter is giving the tank nice flow. What do u guya think? Should I set the timers yet?

Gunna give this a bump up bc I would really appeciate any tips on what I can do to move forward. Is the shrimp going to be enough in the tank or do I need to add some ammonia to the tank? Going to test soon and ill post the results.Other than that the tank has the shrimp and dr tims added as of tonight.

All you can do now is wait my GRASSHOPPER. The shrimp is more then enough unless you wanna go the ammonia route.

I think if the shrimo is food enough ill wait it out. When do you think Ill start to see something? Planning on getting my test kit sunday.

Hey guys....I got hone tonight and couldn't deal with the stink of these shrimp so I fifured they decomposed enough so I threw them away (outsode trash mind you) Tank still looks good. First test will be done tomorow. ill add ammonia if I have to. But that's what the tests are for. ill post the results monday...ITS THE FIRST FOOTBALL SUNDAY OF THE YEAR!!! Here's a pic of the tank with the lights on tonight 20130907_215943-842852388.jpg

HAPPY FOOTBALL SUNDAY EVERYONE! Ijust wanted to post my test results and see what the reaction is. SG- 1.021. pH-8.0 Ammonia- 8.0 Rites- 2.0 Rates- 5.0. Thoughts? Seeing the ammonia that high was kinda scary.

Man that ammonia is high. Now time to let it go thru its nitrogen cycle process.
