I tested my dc 10500 pump at 11ft it's pumping 700 gph. This might be sufficient for me. I am going to do more testing with different configurations.

The tank will only be around 100 gallons, so 700 gph is plenty. It will be from the basement to the first floor so I'm going to guess 11 feet would be plenty. Even if I lose some flow, that should be ok. I'll have to look into it.

My buddy did a 340 from Coast to Coast, great looking product. If/when i do a big tank that is who I would have build mine.

Coast to Coast just recently built my tank for me. I absolutely love it! You will be very happy. Are you picking it up from them or getting it delivered? I also had them build me the steel stand frame and I just skinned it.

I wish I could do a 340, but 100 is the biggest I could fit. I'm having them deliver it with a steel stand as well, I was floored when the wood stand came out more then the tank to build on the quote. So I have some woodworking to do when I get it. I can't wait till I can get it. I would love to see pictures.

I picked mine up to save $$$. For the most part it was a smooth transaction. I kind of got into it with one of the guys. (The one with the accent). The other guy Chris I think his name is the best.

After I got it all up and running I called them to get a price for a small frag tank. It was almost the price of the 140g tank they built me. Needless to say I passed.

One step at a time

So having to deal with my town for building permits set my tank upgrade back 3 months now. But we finally broke ground this week. Given I was suppose to be in final stages for the house, I had to schedule Coast to Coast to deliver my tank, so I'm getting it next week. I will be sitting in my garage for a few months now :(

I had them build a metal stand which I will wrap with wood of some sorts.

Sadly, I missed this entire thread until now. I'm glad I found it though because this looks like a great build to follow along on.

Sorry about all the permit delays setting you back, but so far everything you've done appears to be the right move on your part. Keep it going and you will eventually get there!

Love the peninsula style tank by the way. I just upgraded to a 120G and although it's not a custom like yours, the dimensions are the same (48x24x24) and I really love the size. Mine is a peninsula too, but with a corner overflow instead of a side.

Anyway, good luck with it Mike. I'll be following along as you update.

I posted this in another thread on skimmers but here is the one that I'll be running:

It's a 30" LifeReef which I will probably be running the Mag12 paired with it as a internal. The build quality is very good. I can't wait till get this wet.

that tank looks beautiful!

Looking nice....I do love tanks with 3 side views... I had a 125 FO tank years ago in another home separating the kitchen from a den area...really was nice. Definitely want to see the finish look...!!!

Some progress!!

So the slowest build thread is starting to make some progress. My temporary tank isn't doing so well, as I don't have my controller connected and I have been a bit behind on ensuring parameters are in check. A lot of the SPS's are probably in trouble. On the good side, I've laid out where the access to the basement will go for the flooring people (its the rectangle near the plug):

What I have asked them to do is finish the floor and do a cut out of the finished floor, if I ever need to break the tank down, I can just replace the cutout and only have a rectangle box outline and not holes in the finished floor.

And the first layer of poly went down today. We have some cabinets going in next week and then a second layer of poly, then I can put the tank in it's final display position.

Over the weekend, I ripped and rough cut to size some maple for the face frame:

I'm going to attach it to the stand with some magnets, and probably order some custom size doors. I'm still trying to decide how much trim work I want around the plywood/homosote or if I just keep it flat.

I've done a fair amount of shopping during the back friday sale and picked up 2 Panworld pumps for the manifold and skimmer and a Iwaki for the main pump. I have more schedule 80 True unions ball valves that I care to admit. The plumber working on my house was a bit floored about all the plumbing supplies I had accumulated for this build.

More picture to come...

Always love seeing the "wood and nails" part of a tale, being a hands-on, DIY type of person. Not quite sure I understand what's going on with the rectangular piece of wood, but that will just make me waiting for more pictures. The pine plank subfloor and BX wire does tell me the house is pre-60's in age. Keep the pictures coming. Thanks.

Your correct, the house was built in the late 40's. We did a total gut of the kitchen/dining room and went out 5 feet to make room for the tank.

I had the electrician run a line to the ceiling above the tank for my Kessil lights. To get as clean of a look as possible, I will not be running these from my Apex, but off the Kessil controller which will be mounted in a box like structure (similar to a soffet). This way I will not have wires hanging down to the tank or floor.

The left side is the future home of the 120.

Sorry boring picture, but this has been 6 months in the making!
