Just a small update,

I ordered my plumbing for this tank and so far only 1 item has arrived. To give myself some redundancy (and peace of mind) I ordered two 1/2in Loc Line, in-line check valves.

My plan is to have them installed on split return lines. Not sure how they will work, but we'll see.

these work fine but significantly reduces flow, may whistle and get clogged, i've used them before. you're better off drilling a small hole on one of the loclines to break the siphon.

Drill a hole in the underside?

Another small update, my plumbing supplies came in along with my return pump.

BRS had the RS Run on an "open box" sale so I pulled the trigger on it. I'll be picking up the controller in the near future.

Whats in the box: All schedule 80 pvc fittings (gate valve, ball valve, 45's, 90's, union's and pipe)

Update:

I ordered a self leveling mat that just came in, so after the install, I'll be ready to mount and hard plumb the tank.

More goodies came in, my reefmat and reef run controller.

Hopefully I can get to the plumbing this weekend

Here's another option, and the only way I'd use a check valve, what Marc Levenson (Melev's Reef) called a reverse check valve siphon break. The advantage with this application is that when it fails it puts water back into your tank.

Weekend update,

Finally got the tank mounted, sump placed and plumbing dry fit. I'm running a Herbie style Overflow

From left to right:

Overflow/Main drain, Return line, Emergency drain line.

With the weight of the schedule 80's, I'm going to need to strap them in some way to take some stress off the connections.

I've never hard plumbed a tank before, so what do you guys think?

As far as the strap for the pipes, I was thinking about using some pvc strap. Unless anyone knows a better way

Also, the SCA 302 protein skimmer is too big for this sump so I'll need to pick up another one.

The way the sump was built, the skimmer can only fit in the front right chamber. Which would force me to relocate the return pump and Reefmat

I found one at saltwateraquarium.com which should fit and run perfectly in the center chamber

500 DC Reef Skim 2.0 Protein Skimmer - TMC

I use an auto aqua ato/awc smart something I had to get creative with it to pump water up from my basement. The original one was the best. This one is really expensive and not as good.

I'm liking the Red Sea ato, and I figured i go that route to keep all under the app. My lfs carries them so I can get it anytime.
