It's tentacles/feathers... yeah they'll stay out waving like it's catching stuff but if anything swims by it or the wave maker kicks on it darts back in and then slowly comes back out...
I'll try to get a better video to make it clearer...

Heres a closeup of a duster from my tank looks like it has banding just like the stars do but my guess is it's a feather duster..

I had this which I think someone said earlier was a basic green poly up high on my rock with high flow but as you can see it closed up and hasn't reopened... I moved it down and out of the heavy flow...

They are the palys, they should open pretty much anywhere, they are very resilient. Stop moving them and they will open. It could take a few days for them to open

Late to the thread...definitely agree that it is a barnacle. unusual to find them on a frag. usually you find them on LR that has been seeded in the ocean (vs the dry rock people cure themselves). Unless you plan on feeding it - unfortunately it will likely starve and die eventually.

Do you need to limit light on frags? I read up on the three frags I got to see what the light and flow needs were for each and set them up in my tank accordingly but two of the three are not doing well at all... one looks like it's bleaching and the other closed it's polyps and won't open...the galaxia is the only one doing okay with the barnacle on it.

Filter feeders are always a pain in my opinion unless they have some other mechanism to eat. Clams for example filter feed, but thanks to the symbiotic algae (zooxanthellae) in the mantel, they are relatively hardy for reef tanks (except mine sadly).

A barnacle does not have any symbiotic relationship. It's almost a parasite lol that just latches to an object (dock pilings, rock, a turtle, crabs, lobsters, a whale). It flicks out to grab stuff from the water. You cannot feed mysis or regular fish food to a barnacle. The stuff is just too big for it to consume.

You could breed your own live phytoplankton (water/sunlight/any start-up source), buy it frequently from the LFS, or try freeze-dried stuff (i've not had much luck here).

Anyways - non-photosynthetic critters (certain types of gorgonians, sun corals, barnacles) are all cool but require a bit more TLC to keep.

They are all at the bottom. As far as the barnacle I feed the corals reef snow... it's like marine snow... I was told it's for filter feeders and alot of different corals... I feed 5 ml a day... it's still kicking...lol

i think my dad has used marine snow for years now and the tube worm is bigger than ever - so that should work for the barnacle. Good luck!
