Oh no he didn't, oh yes he did 180 gal build

Well the fresh water and peroxide should have handled that. If you want to be through maybe reduce the particulates etc you can remove and flush it. My sand bed is very shallow so it was easy to drain my tank down to the sand bed bleach and sterilize my wet dry vacuum then goto town and suck out all the sand wash it and put it back in

When I flush it in the fresh water doesn't it need to be out of the tank? I have about 140 lbs of sand and its like 3" throughout the tank.

If I don't have to remove all the sand I'd prefer not to.

My plan is to remove all the water tomorrow, rescape, fill with fresh water, add peroxide, and do that 2 times. then refill with RO water and begin the cycle.

Freshwater + peroxide is double teaming velvet and ich. Neither can live in it. The only reason that I would remove the sand is if I'm concerned with dead bacteria etc. As you are flushing the tank twice just siphon the sand in the tank and release all that nasty stuff and leave it in. I do not think you need to remove it . I wouldn't.

Roger that thank you

I still don't understand the peroxide....what are two bottles of peroxide in 180 gallons of water going to accomplish? The peroxide would get super diluted and in my opinion be a waste of money.

And with the sand....I would definitely remove it and give it a good cleaning. By killing everything in the tank there is going to be a lot of dead crap trapped in the sand. Siphoning is ok, but it is not as thorough. And if wanting to rid the tank of all the nasties....then removing the sand is the best idea.

I placed an order for 50 lbs of Reef Cleaner's rock on Sunday.

I requested larger pieces for my 180 gallon tank.

Here are a few pictures of the rocks and then I just threw some of them on top of one another to get an idea for scaping.

Keep in mind these little random scapes took all of 5 minutes to make and play with. I plan on drilling the rocks and making it stable :).

I think I'm going to do a pillar and arch like I have, but will keep playing around to get ideas. Now to find a big drill bit :X

The dosing amount of peroxide should be equivalent to the volume. To get around 150 ppm

What is the procedure to know what ppm you are at?

I'm scratching my head on this one as well. Typical drug store hydrogen peroxide is 3%. So to determine ppm of this stock solution:

ppm = 3 g / 100 g (mls) x 1,000,000 = 30,000 ppm

If you simply dilute this by half, that is 15,000 ppm.

I'm still thinking the peroxide in the tank is going to be nothing but a waster of 10-15 bucks. Unless you use a gallon of it.

I know that peroxide is good for spot treating on coral frag plugs, but to treat an entire tank seems silly.

Whatever the cost is....It still does not make sense how this little bit of peroxide will help with anything in that much water.

I get using it for spot treatments of algae, but not for treating an entire tank.

Pillar:

It is about 21/22" tall, I drilled 1/2" holes down center and used 1/2" pvc to keep it straight. I need to add some JB weld or something though because the top rocks do wobble a bit with my WP60 on max :>

Water is still clearing up and I just washed/readded my sand, but this gives you an idea of how it looks in the tank.
