rons 70 gal upgrade

If you just use a small container like 3 or 4 gal instead of hooking directly to your RO It will only fill that much if a float sticks It wont just pump water all day long I have a 7 gal on my 300 gal setup No over flow issues if the float sticks. Thanks To BAX for that answer. Bobb

I have my ro water in a container in a different room
and it is piped in the ceiling with a selinoid and peralistic pump.
It only gets stuck in the off position

here is an update with some pictures

the onlything i added was an 8 watt UV i had laying around. I puti it inline with the outflow of my phosban reactor.
Other than that the only new stuff is the livestock
Oregon tort, Trachy, some zoos, and the yellow tang and scooter blenny

I think the scooter is the most entertaining fish so far
I like the way he hops around

I added a small hippotang yesterday

today I started a new dosing program
I am using the brightwell approach #1
I will be taking pictures every 2 weeks to record changes

great setup!! is that brain just on top of the rock? i have mine on sand and always wodered if i should move it up..its fully open though so i dont think i should mess with it..

Your tank is amazing can you tell me where you got the tank and sump setup i would love to create something similar. I also missed in the thread what type of lighting

thanks

RFD

The tank is an oceanic tech tank it is a 70 gal. The sump is built out of a 20 high tank and I modeled it after a precision marine sump for the baffels I used 1/4" glass. I am using an eras sump buddy 40 skimmer and clamped on a filter sock holder. The lighting is a solaris I5
send ma a pm if you want to see it in person

I just added another vortech. It is amazing i have a consistant wave in the tank and at night it cuts the flow in half. Corals look a lot happier and my skimmer is skimming a lot more. I guess I didn't have enough flow to get the detritus out.

On another note I was trying to take some nights shots today. Any tips because I get either almost daylight pics when I measure the white balance on the sand, or i get pics that are overly blue and the corals don't show well.

What size Vortech did you go with? I love the mp10 on our 30g and am debating the size for our new 57 gallon when it comes in.

I have 2 mp40's on this tank. They are nut turned up all the way but one was not enough. I went with a second 40 because of the ability to sync them togeather.

your tank is nice. I'm impressed with the growth on your corals using the LEDs. Clearly the US made fixture appears to be better. Did you tinker with the lighting - it appears whiter. I recall the other pics of the LEDs (mine included) all tend to be bluer (and not necessarily nicer).

I'm running 100% blue and 70% white now.
The digi on the right side has almost doubled since May. It's about 5" now, and the frags I made right after MACNA healed within a week.
I have a purple acro with green polyps towards the top and that encrusted and is starting to shoot up too.

What settings are you running on your lights?

I have no idea. I looked at it once and subsequently the display went haywire (to the point that the lights would not come on properly the next day). After a day or two of this - I stopped messing with it and left it on "auto".

Interesting results on the corals. My monitpora caps stunted initially - but now appear to have adjusted to the lights and are growing. The neon green one from smcooler far faster than the orange cap I got from aqob. I thought the orange ones were easy...lol.

I also picked up what was termed a "purple bonsai" - but is basically a purple SPS with green tips. This is the only SPS that has done "ok" - so it's interesting yours is doing well also. I broke it by accident and the stump has got 5 green "eyes" and the disc has another 20 eyes - separate from the main "frag" (I was real clumsy with the frag trying to re-plug it onto my LR).

I will try to take some pictures today. Since I put in the second MP40 my corals are opening big time. Great polyp extension. I noticed some are growing a little faster too. My skimmer is pulling a lot more too because more detritus is getting stirred up from the pumps. I guess it wasn't a want but my tank did need it.
