I knew that right now I have to slow. I have a foam sponge that will fit over it and then turn it up.
I just threw a little clump of cualerpa in the tank and they went right at it. Guess some pods they saw.
The cualerpa probably cannot take the cold temp but short term should help with feeding.

Hey Madreefer did u notice that the tube on filter that goes in tank is adjustable,, u can set height and the dial on top controls water flow. I’ve always put on full but do what you think makes seahorses happy

How do you place it in the shell? Turkey baster, eye dropper? If I place it in the shell and put in tank it will float off.

How does the food stay in the shell?
I used a rigid tube going to it. It was in the corner so wasn't seen. I cut it an angle leaving a little lip that I heated to turn it up a bit so food went into the shell and not behind it. I would use a turkey baster to put in and slowly push down to shell. I would clean weekly with tube brush during my water changes, pulling any gunk out with the turkey baster, then flushing after. It was crusted with pink coraline so I couldn't pull it out to clean.

Others would just use a turkey baster going directly to it and slowly put food in. You train them to follow the end of turkey baster, then to shell. If the shell is deep enough, it will stay. They will hitch around and feed until done.
It is cute because they will know it's feeding time and will wait by the shell.IMG_0202.JPG

Brother I’ve been just dumping it in with a cup and make it rain shrimp been doing that 2 years. They come right to top soon see me with cup,, ones I have u r used to it. Don’t be so stinking technical just dump it in and they both eat frozen mysis n brine no problem. Relax have some Oregano and enjoy them. Supposed to be fun

Okay guys, I am really thinking of giving up on these dwarfs. I cannot believe that they take so much time to care for.
I lost another girl so I am down to 4 adults but had more babies so I am up to 7 or 8 babies now... not sure how many because lost one of them too.
I go thru about 2 gallons each of fresh and saltwater on these guys...I do 2 gallons for my 20 gallon I take about a cup out day and night and caring for bbs.! The water is cheap, just saying how much work goes into them.
Maybe if I had a 5 gallon tank it would be a little easier but I'm not sure I want to spend the money at this point.

On a different note, I went to Petco in Brick to get some copepods. If I keep these guys, I will need to start a copepod tank...another thing.
Andrew tolded me that he bought some pixies from Ocean Riders. He is a really nice guy.

Andrew is very nice and informative. PetTco is doing $1 a gallon so 5g tank for $5 is not bad.

I had dwarfs in a 1g tank. BBS is a pain, had many babies but culture crashed and they starved. This was probably 15 years ago mind you.

Biggest mistake was getting these guys.
I freaking love them. Right next to my desk and get distracted easily.
Always hunting and can hear them eating...So cool.

I thought that too but the $1 sale started with the 10 gallon tanks :mad_new: And he didn't have any in stock anyway. $13.99
I asked in local fb add if anybody had one they weren't using. Person answered but turned out to be 10 gallon.

I know, right? I loved when I had my big horses. Where I had them, I could watch them while watching tv. They have such personalities.

Check FBM I saw a few acrylic tanks with filter for like $30.
Looked like those all in one Betts tanks.

Ugggh what was I thinking going with live tank,, came home last night to find tank completely cloudy that u couldn’t even see in it and looked like pee in color. Buddy suggested putting in air stone so seahorses won’t choke out because lack of air, this morning it looks much better but not good enough. I’m gonna do a 15 gallon change today. Life was simple with my crappy Walmart set up,, why did I go this route

Paulie, can you move them into the 20g you have until this issue clears up?

I have been looking at those tanks too but the stand I have will hold just under 12x16 footprint and the filters that I am seeing won't work for the little guys...suck them into overflow.
Aqueon LED 7.5 Gallon Shrimp Aquarium Kit looks promising but I have a call in to the company but again...
